I assume we've all seen many different lists claiming to be "the rules for cycling". This one from Phil Gaimon's blog isn't anything particularly ground-breaking, but I enjoyed it as a light Monday afternoon distraction from office monotony.

#10 is the crux of it all.

He forgot....#11 Quit whining. If you want to whine, stay at home and whine, not during a bike ride!

I like his rules. He’s spot on and funny.

How does he define "car culture"?

How does he define "car culture"?

Good question.

I don't see cars or car culture as any sort of enemy. Plus, around here people talk about their cars almost as much as bikes.

Does this mean I can finally wear my genuine, replica Peter Sagan WC jersey in public?

+++ :)

Actually, you can use this in a lot of areas in life where you are in a group. On my free time, don't really want to hang with whiners.

For #10, the positive twist is to "Be Nice". I hear this request at the start of a local mtn bike race. Really goes a long way.

How does he define "car culture"?probably just "hopefully they don't kill us while riding"...?

How does he define "car culture"?

We don't recognize car culture because we are immersed in it. All of our public and commercial infrastructure is designed around cars.

Hmmm
obey the laws that make sense for us
The enemy is car culture
We don’t helmet shame (adult) strangers we see without them, but don’t show up on the group ride like that if that’s not how everyone else does it.

Lots of points of discussion possible..
-Running red lights and stop signs?
-'Enemy'..makes for some 'interesting' responses while riding= automatic aggression
-Rider's noggin, whether or not a person has a helmet on has no effect on the people who do choose to have a helmet on..'never hurt, 'may' help.

My opinion, of course.

Let's please stop making rules. They're all so dumb.

I think you'll find that's the over arching point of Phil's post.

He's made that point several times before he made his rules so his list is redundant. Just generating content and views with this round.

Rule 11: Shave your legs. Or don't shave them. Or only shave one of your legs. It's your choice.
Rule 12: Wear your jersey over your bib straps. Or wear them under your bib straps. Or don't wear a jersey at all. It's all good!
Rule 13: Make sure you put on your shorts the right way, not inside-out. But if you wear them with the chamois on the outside, that's OK too!
