sort of a PSA, but interesting conversation piece, for sure:

will be interesting to see what it goes for, considering Dario did not paint it, but did build it.

Mano Nella Mano 2017

For the second time Dario Pegoretti has created three frames in cooperation with students of the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design - a spectacular symbiosis of the Italian art of building frames and singular design. The proceeds will be donated to the Stuttgart children's hospice.

Certainly is a conversation piece. Added to the watchlist for sure. Guesses on what it goes for? I'll say $2400, even with the scratch/dent.

If you bought this, would you paint it?

A used Duende in good condition painted by the master himself usually goes for around $1800. I have a hard time envisioning paying that much for that frame. Maybe if I really liked the paint but that is not appealing to me at all.

Wasn't this one of the frames from last year's sale? I remember watching those art school frames ... hmmm, time to snoop through my back watches/posts lol

i both find the idea and the actual product more attractive.

I actually like the paint scheme better than some actual Pegoretti paint schemes. The base color looks a little odd, but maybe it is more pink than flesh-tone in real life (some pictures show a more pinkish hue). Bummer about the blemishes. Very cool project, and I bet the bike rides beautifully. I think $1,800 is a stretch, but would be happily proven wrong.

I'm not sure that's the paint scheme I would request from Dario either (prefer Thelonius) but from what I read it is a new Duende w/ Dario's intimate involvement in the finish process and <was> for a worthy cause. Philanthropy aside, its a NIB Duende with a unique story and not one you will ever see again. While the scratch is unfortunate paying typical Ebay used Duende rates for a NIB one-of-a-kind Peg does not seem an outlandish notion. And last I checked the bidding (https://www.ebay.com/itm/NIB-Pegoretti-Duende-54cm-/352422878770?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255) was at US$475 with no reserve.

Regarding the paint, I don't think the ebay seller's photos do it justice. The photos all appear poorly lit/exposed.

I assume that the photos taken when the frameset was first for sale more accurately show the color(s).

And, to me, it is unclear exactly who is responsible for the actual paint job. The students are only credited with the "design" and Dario was there with them throughout the process & execution, so this paint job certainly has some of him in it.

My point exactly. Regardless, there is some interesting backstory to this listing.

I think it's gorgeous and would buy it in a heartbeat if I was in the market and it fit.

I would not repaint. It is not as much a Pegoretti as a unique example of where Dario influences design - though education.

As a person who went through a design program, I think it'd be pretty cool to have a beautiful frame that has a unique story/pedigree. I once participated in a design charette with Craig Dykers (architecture :: Snohetta founder) and while the outcomes weren't amazing in any way, it was a great experience to receive advice from an avant garde designer (like Pegoretti).

It's definitely a collectors item.
