Cannot thank fellow forumite enough for how accommodating he was with loaning me one of his bikes. A bada** bike at that. My family takes annual summer trip to Bend and for past couple years I’ve been trying to find decent rental but it’s always janky bikes or not right size or not right “type”.

Not only was this the right bike but he was super accommodating and very very cool about the whole thing. If you’re ever in area look up Andysti.....he’s definitely a dudes “dude”.

As for advice. If traveling don’t put pedal wrench in carry-on. It’s considered a weapon. :crap::crap:

Also, if you bring a Garmin, remember to bring mount. :crap::crap:

Anyway, I’m firm believer that there is more good than bad in this place and Andysti is further proof.

Thanks again Andy for one of most beautiful rides I’ve ever done.

andy has a pretty badass camper van too, if i remember right, and what a cool place to have sweet toys!

as for the pedal wrench, i just use pedals that use a 6mm hex key to install, and carry a small multi-tool. have flown with it a bunch of times, no problem. since pedals are basically self tightening when you ride them, i've not had an issue installing and removing them with the small multi tool.

I had multi-tool and the SPD's I had did indeed have 6mm hex key, but the self tightening got the pedals to the point where I could not get enough leverage to get them undone with the 6mm key.......next time I'll just throw it in the travel case and be done with it.

UGH

Bend - Next time, buy an Abbey Tools pedal wrench as a souvenir. Take it home in your checked luggage.

That's a great-looking bike. Looks like it clears some beefy tires.

Andy sti is definitely tops in my book, as well.

What a great loan he made to you! Those are some envy inducing photos as well.

What a pleasure to hear that this place can produce real-world neighborliness.

Although I have had only good experiences myself, cnighbor1's recent experience in the classifieds is a reminder that it takes all the villagers to raise a village, but only a little villainy to tarnish it.

Hats off to you both.

Man, we loved Bend when we passed thru there with our trailer. Hated to leave. We actually stayed at La Pine SP south of Bend, which had about 15 miles of buff singletrack that I rode a lot on the gravel bike. Lots of other dirt options around, too. Just a great area.

Oh yeah, TSA wasn't crazy about my 8mm hex wrench because it was longer than 7".
