Am building a rim onto a new hub that calls for 259.5 mm spokes (prowheelbuilder online spoke calculator) I have the following options for spokes. They are all Wheelsmith DB 14

1. Use 259 NDS and 260 DS that I have from take apart of same rim. I have preserved the spoke orientations-leading/trailing and inboard/outboard, which I think is nice. 0.5 mm is totally within tolerance, but too short is not good. This is where I am leaning.

2. New 261 mm spokes that I have on hand. 1.5 mm too long, but perhaps will play out to less than that in practice.

3. Use the used 260 DS and get new 260 spokes for NDS. I'm thinking this wont be so great.

4. Just order 36 new 260 spokes.

I like the "use what you have" aesthetic of the first two.

There may be a fifth option-have Peter White shorten and rethread the 261. Not sure he would do this.

Thoughts?

Use 295 on drive side(is it a cog/cassette/freewheel type hub?) and 260 on the NDS..

...or rather, 259. It is a front dyno disc hub. The non-dyno disc hub it replaces had some dish, with the 259 NDS, but the dyno does not, so calls for same 259.5 both sides. I wanted to use the 259 on NDS to preserve the exact orientation. If the wheel has no dish does it matter which side is shorter?

Sorry..259..yup, use 259 on disc side and 260 on non disc side. Spokes are often plus or minus 1mm anyway..

Okay sounds good. Thanks!

Did you measure the ERD of the rim yourself?

Life is too short to re-use spokes IMO.

Nope. But lengths came out fine with prowheelbuilder spoke calc on the original hub using the listed ERD. Similar to my experience with other velocity rims.
