I've been waiting to get healthy before purchasing the Trek Madone P1 9.0. Well I found out today that will not be an option. The new paint schemes are god awful. Looks like they were trying to copy some older Cervelo schemes. Painting the seat tube. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Currently the SLR is the only option and cheapest version is 6K. I know there will be other models later, but for now, I am not a fan!! Not even close. Guess I will be buying a used one now. Thoughts?!?!?!

Madone SL is coming... They're splitting the line to be SLR and SL just like the Emonda and Domane. New SLRs are similar to old RSL carbon, and SL is same carbon type as the other SL bikes

it's your hard earned cash, and you should spend it as you see fit, but since you asked for thoughts: mine are that i would never spend full boat on a brand new Trek.

i've heard nothing but great things about the madone line, but since they keep updating the models, why spend big dollars to get the latest and greatest when you can save a good chunk, get last years model used and the paint scheme you want? i wouldnt get caught up in the arms race spending full retail on the latest model, when a lightly used one will be 99% as good.

i also think most of the newest crop of carbon bikes are ugly regardless of paint scheme, and if i were buying one, i would do so for the performance, not the aesthetics.

those are my thoughts:)

I have been looking at some used Madone 9.9's for some really good prices, but getting new with the lifetime warranty sounds great. I definitely get the bike for performance, but when you can get exactly what you want for $500 more (project 1), it seems worth it to me. I feel I will be going used for sure now. Appreciate your opinion.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL.

I don’t think they look that bad. I quite like the one with sunburst color though I’d prefer the whole frame in that color. Project One is always an option to get the color you prefer.

Compared to the other aero bikes recently unveiled, the Madone looks chunky, less svelte.

While they do look a bit chunky at least they're somewhat proportional and distinguished from the "wind tunnel chic" look that almost every other manufacturer has defaulted to with dropped cricket-leg seatstays, flat top tube and carved seattubes

I'm just not a fan of that sunburst. I really dont like the seat tube being painted. Just leave it black. I am however a fan of the black gold, but at an extra 1K, I'm staying away. probably end up buying a used one now.

The new SLR 6 in grey looks excellent. I agree some of the two-tones are not my cup of tea but that grey/light grey paint looks very good.

I would buy new as you get a warranty and often good dealer support.

Why not just get a canyon?

The Trek Madone SLR is the best looking Trek IMO. That sunburst color scheme ain't pretty, Project 1 costs more but worth it if it's a long time keeper.

Thanks for posting that BMC, wow, amazing. Clean looking, live the aero bottle cages, that's a great looking bike.

They do not have my size in the aeroad and I have no option to test ride. I have test road a lot of other bikes and the Madone felt the best by a long shot.

The Blackgold color is pretty amazing, but at 7K it is unfortunately out of my budget.

I hear ya, seven grand is a chunk of change for me too. Canyon had a sale recently that made them reasonable.

If I were you I would hold out until seasons end for all makes. Brand new will be on sale as well as slightly used, demos and models getting dusty on the sales floor.

Has anyone read whether they will be available as frame/fork/hs/seatpost? If so, pricing?

Is stem specially fitted to the fork tube or can others be run? Also, is it possible to run a spacer above the stem in case fit changes? Seems all the photos have them cut flush.

I must be old. Those are all terrible looking. That Cannondale is just hideous. I'll take my round tubed, lugged carbon bikes any day over these. I know, its all about performance. But the trend in bike aesthetics is in a downward out of control spiral. Rant over, flame away. Grumpy old Matt.

Yeah, I like that BMC Timemachine Road too. The water bottle integration into the frame is tight and that storage compartment is something useful, you could do away with carrying stuff in you back pocket and lose that seat bag too. I bet we'll see more bikes offer that. The BMC is a great looking bike:

I think Trek makes great bikes even though they aren't the nicest looking but the newer aero Madones are awesome. It's a proper looking bike and not too bad with the light blue:

That's the only Trek I've seen that I'd be interested in. The oversized "TREK" decal in contrasting colors looks horrid. I rather like the blue/black combo. Not that I'm in line for one, just saying..

Yeah, Trek has a weird design language in frames but it works with the Madone. If doing a project one I would be boring and replace that blue splash on the bike above with a white splash and be a happy camper.

The murdered out look has been done to death but the aero frames wear it better (Ha!), I would probably go all black over any color on it at all.

Beyond aesthetics I would like to ride the Trek and BMC, I bet they are awesome.

Some of the new project one paint jobs for the Madone are stunning

https://cyclingtips.com/2018/07/2019-trek-madone-slr-project-one-icon/

but probably not for everyone.

I'd love this one for myself
