Has anybody here dealt with a Bennet's or Rolando fracture of the thumb? This is when the first metatarsal breaks at the bottom end. Rolando is when there is a double fracture in there. Here is what my xray looked like. Luckily it's my left hand. I had surgery to put in 3 pins, which are out now and I'm recovering nicely. Has anyone else had one of these injuries and resumed cycling activities?

I broke it while vacation in the Faroe Islands, really the most beautiful place in the world, and part of Denmark. If you need to have emergency surgery while on vacation, not a bad place for it to happen.

Because of where the fracture is, I'm a little leery to put weight on that area, as one would when riding on the hoods. Any experience with recovery would be appreciated. And here's another vacation pic, just because the Faroes are incredible!

I had the same fracture. Joint shattered, five pins put in. Took a while, but I'm back on the bike w no noticeable effects specific to the break area. Just take your time and do the PT and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Ugh. I thankfully haven't done that, but had a nice spiral fracture of my left index last year. (Someone did something stupid in a race and a bunch of people paid for it.)

Mine wasn't anywhere near as bad as yours, but I can confirm you do not want to skip any PT. You need to work hard to get the range of motion back...15 months later and I'm still only 95%.

Good luck. Glad the rest of the trip to the Faroes was good; a magic place.
