I have a set of TRP 8.4’s and find that they have to sit very close ot the rim to work well with my Potenza levers. Does anyone know of a brake that works with the same power but offers a bit more rim gap?
How about the Pauls?
Thanks.

I have issues w/the Paul Minimotos and Record 10 speed levers. Same problem-the brake levers nearly bottom out against the handlebars, even with the pads set close to the rims.

Just curious as a Shimano not Campy user - do the Shimano levers pull more cable than Campy? Or does the same issue occur with Shimano STI?
Thanks

I’ve used Paul cantis with both 10spd centaur and 11spd Athena with no issues whatsoever once the pads were properly toed in.

I have Tektros that are working well. Cheap too.

I have also run trp 8.4 with new style/hood Centaur and Veloce levers. Work great, including for cross racing. Yes, the levers travel further but they don't bottom out.

Which way do you route the cable? That changes the pull ratio.

I wasn't aware that there are different ways to route the brake cable. So I would say the normal (only?) way.

I’m using the 8.4’s with Chorus 11s levers, and I love them. Yes, the pads need to be pretty close the rims, and yes the levers will bottom out, but at that point the brakes would be fully locked, and I’d probably be over the bars!

I think it is probably personal preference, and some probably think the combo doesn’t offer enough modulation. But I like the easy 1 or 2 finger touch for very powerful braking.

I have Minimoto’s on a tandem with Veloce 9s levers and find they brake very similar to the 8.4’s. They are very powerful, which is what I wanted on the tandem.
