I saw this the other day was impressed with PS's flexibility, strength and balance. No wonder he can handle the bike the way he does.

Here's the FB link (sorry, I couldn't find this anywhere but on FB)...

Holy **** that split exercise is ridiculous.

I like the idea of the deadlift on the box. I maybe need to incorporate that.

The side plank exercise withe dumbell is really impressive and looks really productive too. That probably helps a lot with pulling on the handlebars at high power.

I’m not a PS fan......but there is no doubting the guy is physically gifted.

Very impressive.

the dudes a beast, these exercises are crazy. playing catch with a weight while standing on the balance ball didn;t even make him look close to off balance, his core strength seems to be off the charts. i gotta do some mre core work and flexibility training now.

Wife just signed us up to gym and I tried working on my strength, core and flexibility on Sunday....................lets just say I'm STILL sore. :p:no:

I remember reading an article a while back about a training camp he did. The strength coaches were like, "he's incredible. you could see him getting stronger in real time" or something like that.

will see if I can find the exact quote.

erm- just be aware of what you need to be bracing and targeting when you're doing deficit deadlifts. looks like hes doing a stiff leg deficit for the hammies, so avoid using your lower back.

better yet, dont do it on a box but just stand on a 45lb bumper plate to learn..

edit: Kurto below corrected and is in fact not a dead but a Jefferson Curl !

It actually looks like he's doing a Jefferson curl (https://www.gymnasticbodies.com/jefferson-curls-weighted-mobility/), which is more of a mobility exercise and is seen by many as great for spinal health (others, naturally, disagree and caution against it). I do these with just body weight super slowly to stretch my back every day. I find it especially helpful after sitting at my desk for an extended period of time or after a long ride. Here's another resource for those interested: http://www.weakbackbuilder.com/blog/jefferson-curl/

Yeah, you sure don't want to load up heavy and start going into flexion like that. Give it a shot, though. I think they feel good and really help to stretch everything out.

What I wouldn't give to have just half of that flexibility.

Interestingly, I've never viewed Sagan's actual riding position as anything impressive. certainly not the way I view Cancellara's position.

Good stuff, but check out also Alpine WC skiers on Youtube for extreme strength + flexibility. It gets a lot crazier than what PS is doing there. Lindsey Vonn, Marcel Herscher, Julia Mancuso, Aksel Lund Svindal, etc.

The medicine ball exercises, upside-down pull-ups, off-balance stuff they do to get their bodies to hold up and react under their event conditions...give you vertigo in addition to the heaves. ;)

Reminds me of Nino Schurter's workout vid (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW-nWnl5hYk). More emphasis on balance for XC racing.

Damn, I grew up in the dark ages of training.
