Hi, I was wondering who else makes smaller, lightweight handlebar bags. Not looking for a proper randonneuring setup that would require a small front rack, but rather something can be hung from road drops.

I ride a Fog City bag and it's pretty nice for the basics.. I could use the Outershell...for a few more items. I ad a Revelate feed bag if I need extra room and it also fits my smaller camera.

Never cared for the tube style bags. I've tried them over the years but never worked for me access wise.

FWIW I melted a small hole in the bottom of the Fog City to let water run out as it's not exactly waterproof.

Still think this is the best small front handlebar bag https://www.ornotbike.com/collections/accessories/products/the-bar-bag

Bags like the Swift Bandito, Road Runner Burrito and Andrew The Maker BarBar Bag all lack outer end pockets for on the fly handy access and quick jack or vest stuffing.

FWIW it looks like that is a rebadged rickshaw bag so you don’t have to wait for it to come back in stock.

I’m a huge Ruthworks fan. I’ll give that brevet bag a big thumbs up. I have a rando bag from Ely and he’ll customize/make any alteration you could need

the best handlebar bar is no longer made. It was the medium handlebar bag made by Acorn. I have one which I covet. The next best bag and the best bag I have found that you can buy is the handlebar bag by Ricksaw.

If you go the Klik fix route the Ortlieb Ultimate medium are great, and for functionality is far superior to anything that straps onto the bar. Definitely replace the stock bar mount with a Klik fix though. (The stock one is fine, but overdesigned and a pain to mount. Impossible to remount once you remove.) The bag is spaced away from fingers. Waterproof, has magnetic closure-open and close with one hand and snaps into place, shape of the top is such that you can squeeze much more than the stated 7L. You can orient it at the angle you want. Easy to unclip, grab by the bracket, and carry. My only criticism is that if you seriously overweight them they can bob slightly. A beefier bracket would fix that. I also own a Ruthworks which I use but is less functional.

If you are averse to the having a bracket mounted to your bars and dont go full rando you then have to deal with straps and/or and shock cords. I think the Dill Pickle has the best design of these. Also magnetic closure, trapezoid shape also supposedly leaves room for fingers. Tons of custom options for pockets, map/cue sleeve, etc. As Nick notes, designed and made by a serious randonneur. I dont have one of those but I have one of her saddle bags. Have seen the bar bags in the wild and they look awesome.

Yeah that is definitely the Rickshaw rebadged. That's a better design for access and the padding is nice. The problem for me is still the fact that I don't live in an arid environment and rain is a real issue for me. That's why I might need to have an OuterShell especially because of camera gear. I have a huge Arkel for full on touring but it's massive.

Good stuff here...

I prefer the farsik to the bandito it replaced - fastening system was quicker and retained more snug and the bag fabrication was higher quality - the bandito I had didn't seem to ever sit parallel - like it was made a little 'off' center.

Also made by a fellow Canadian, a great price and super quality.

Ruth Works brevet bag for on the fly access, outer pockets (including one in front perfect for my fat cellphone with Otter Box case) and even a little clear pocket on top for a cue sheet that I still use so I don't fiddle too much with my Wahoo GPS. Great attachment system, simple straps for light load or additional optional elastic cords to stabilize if you're carrying something heavy like an SLR camera or additional full water bottles. Perfect size for day trips in changing weather conditions. What is it about SF and bag makers? How the heck do these small cottage businesses pay the rent?

Their other handlebar bags are nice and still pretty lightweight, self contained, and rackless also. I have a Mountain Handle Pack and a Touring Handle Bar Pack and they both use the same "inspired by the capo" mount system with interchangeable mounts, good for lighter or heavier handlebar loads.

The name of the company that made those escapes me......They were great. While they can be adapted for different bags, I believe that they were made with the old T.A. canvas bags in mind as they are a perfect fit. The only downside is that the setup is slightly bouncier on a rough road than a setup with a mounted rack, but is still far more stable than most rackless bags.
They are very hard to find.....

nice but....
hard to access
straps tough to fasten
looks good though
flap should open on rider side, not the front side
maybe minor points, but not as functional as it could be, ought to be
and kickflix hard to swap easily between bikes

Google handlebar bag and mount...combination was about $25 on Amazon. I have a RoadRunner large Burrito that's well built, made in USA, etc., but the $10 bag does the same job with a zipper that's easier to access on the fly. The mount is nice as you have hand space and the bag doesn't press on the cables.

Bumping the thread. I think I am switching up from the whole classic 650b thing to a road bike for PBP, and am looking for a rackless front bag. (Really, it's because packing a rando bike seems like a PITA).

My requirements:
-No rack.... obviously
-Lightweight
-Not *that* big
-Pockets/organization
-Map case

I am afraid that the Swift Paloma is just going to be too big and mess with my handling too much. When I started rando, I was using a handlebar-mounted bag with a bracket and it was less than ideal. I don't know if the Paloma is so light that maybe packed smartly it would not be too noticeable though...

In any case, the two "finalists" are Ruthworks and Dill Pickle. I like the aesthetics of the Ruthworks more, but the size and wider layout of the Dill Pickle seems more useful. Another concern I have is GPS placement: Currently I have an out-front mount, which I can easily switch to a handlebar mount, but I am afraid of real estate for lashing down the bag plus having room for the GPS unit. Further, I need to be able to access the the bottom of the unit for charging during the event, so stem-mounting is not an option. The Ruthworks bag looks like it eats up a lot of the cockpit space due to the closure, so I don't know where the GPS would go.

This is my favorite and its about $12. There is a "drain hole" that I run some paracord through with a slip knot to attach to a fork crown. it converts to a shoulder bag or a hip pack. I cross the buckles and pack a jacket on the outside sometimes.

Built to last.

The idea really appealed to me too, so I just got one. Used it for the first time this morning. My expectations weren't all that high but it exceeded them considerably. The bag doesn't move around, isn't too heavy, and holds lots. Can't beat the price either.

I used the trick of securing the bottom of the bag to the head tube with some string passing through the drain hole. I tied the string around wood dowel inside the bottom of the bag that I cut to match the width of the bag. This gives it more shape and stability. The last trick was to constrain it in the lateral direction. The straps that go around the bag are so long that I was able to wrap them around the bars on both sides, just below the hoods. I secured the ends of the straps by passing them back through the buckles.

Just saw this Charles. Its velcro but I ended up buying some straps from roadrunner bags because I think that system is bad.

There is not a lot of flopping around because you also attach a 3rd mounting point on the HT (just like swift and road runner bags) and keeps the bag pretty sturdy.

I also have one of these

https://thefridge.bigcartel.com/product/super-light-burrito-bag

cheap, very light and well made BUT harder to mount if you have flat top bars, the headtube mount velcro is way too short so I end up just putting it around the shift/brake cables so this bad flops around a bit more.

Oh, one other thing I should mention is that the bag is a bit wide. The bike I mounted them on has 46cm bars and it's fine there, but I'd say that if one's bars are narrower than 44cm, you might feel the need to modify the bag to make it narrower.

KaiVentures (https://www.kaiventurebags.com/about-us) just came onto my radar. They make two sizes of handlebar bag, and a number of other bags, both stock and custom. Their selection of colors isn't as wide as, say, Rickshaw, but it's decent. I have not ordered from them, but I'm considering. Also, Post (https://postcarry.co/products/handlebar-bag) makes a bag with the zipper positioned in front of the bag, rather than towards the top. They say that:

The zipper is positioned to give you access inside even with an out-front computer.

They did not say if it was accessible while riding, and I suspect not. The zipper is covered by a magnetic flap. It does have two side pockets like the Rickshaw and Ornot bags.

I've got a Ruthworks Ultralight Brevet and Swift Bandito. The Bandito is a little bigger and definitely wider. I run narrow bars and the narrower Brevet gives me just enough room on the tops. The depth of the Brevet means that it can be a little harder to dig out things on the bottom. So, while the bag is easy to access while riding, if you stuff the bag you're going to have to be careful about not letting things fly away while you're rooting around. If I had wider bars, I'd probably do the Micah. As it is, I run the Brevet on my my road and gravel bikes and the Bandito on my mountain bike.

Do you have a link on Amazon? Or are the parts (mount and bag) sold separately? I've got a similar mount on my touring bike for accessories like a cell phone mount, front light, and bell and like it a lot. Seems like a great idea for a burrito bag style handlebar bag.

Prior to this thread, I had not heard of KaiVenture Bags. After looking at a number of vendors’ offerings, I decided to purchased a KaiVenture’s Kustom Allday bar bag.

https://kaiventurebags.com/collections/bar-bags

For their custom bags, they have many choices with regard to colors, materials, pockets, etc. I asked if they could add attachments for number plates common to gravel races as well as a couple other additions. They were happy to accommodate, and these changes turned out great.

The bag is competitively priced ($70), especially for the custom options. Overall, it is amazingly nice – exceptionally well design and constructed. Plus, they were very helpful and pleasant during our email correspondence.

Their tool pallets and cycling wallets look pretty great, too. I plan to be a repeat customer.

I just got a Rickshaw bag a few weeks back. They do custom colors, and the bags have a thin plastic insert to help keep the cylindrical shape. I absolutely love it. I got a small, and it's just the right size to hold some tools, a tube, my phone, and few gels.

I love the Rickshaw, but I’m about to DIY another one that’s similar, but adds paracord to strap a jacket to the bottom and a thru-axle sleeve and Dynaplug holster on the outside.

Can someone recommend one of these handlebar extension mounts for a bag? And what bag to go with it? How long should the extension bar be - 20cm enough? I've seen a bunch on eBay and some on Amazon, but with mixed reviews.
Thanks.

The Porcelain Rocket Nigel is THE BEST. I have the "old" version on my gravel bike, and the new one on the SO's. Both bags are water-proof and also bomb-proof.

For longer day rides in the saddle, I love my Ornot mini bar bag (https://www.ornotbike.com/collections/handlebar-bag/products/handlebar_bag_mini). It's just big enough to fit four or five bars. I feel like most of the other handlebar bags out in the market are way too big unless you're trying to not have anything in your jersey pockets.

This looks like a Rickshaw Bag, likely made by them for Ornot, just like the larger/regular Ornot handle bar bag. Get it from Rickshaw for less.

Can verify the Ornot is a Rickshaw rebranded for Ornot.

Yes, it has a Rickshaw tag on it. But, the Ornot colorway is unique to them, and if you like it and their stuff in general, I would give it a hair more credit than just rebranded.

If in Europe, Cordel does a nice handlebar bag.

https://www.cordelcycling.com/product/durum

It's a bit larger than the ornott, good for days when the temperature rises from 2°C to 20°C (36°F to 68°F) in just a few hours. It will easily take winter gloves, a wind breaker and leg warmers, along with some energy bars.

I'm using this one to hold some accessories and a Road Runner Jammer. Been great so far and includes some plastic adapters to mount items meant for larger bars to the small diameter carbon fiber bar:

Nice! Looks almost identical to the one I have/linked and less than half the price. I think I'll pick one up for the other bike...

Looking for a rackless front bag that can also fit commuter gear like a raincoat, ulock, and tools. I have a burrito bag from roadrunner that I love. Have used a rack/wald basket for years but want to change things up. How do folks like the jammer bag? Worth the $$?

Similar to the Jammer, we have a Swift Catalyst that's great.

Wife uses it for bike-packing - the 38cm bars don't fit roll bags (not without having to roll the ends a million times to get it short enough).

I thought this as well at first, but Rickshaw is made in SF and Ornot says their bag is “imported.” Any idea why that is?

(I bought a Rickshaw mini size bag and have been happy with it — very solid mounting, I opted for a hi-viz green interior lining which makes it easy to spot things inside an otherwise black bag).

Can anyone recommend a bag similar to the Ornot Mini Bar Bag but with a wider stance? In other words, same diameter but slightly wider?

I've got the Ornot Mini Bag but unfortunately the location of the straps don't play well with what's mounted on my bars (bell, lights, etc.). This is probably also a function of my handlebar size (i.e., if I had wider bars I could simply move these things out). I've got a larger volume bag that doesn't have this issue but sometimes I don't need to carry all that.

No exp. with the Arundel but you could literally Buy Local and get one of these from ILE which is stellar. (https://ilequipment.com/collections/bike-bags/products/pilot-bar-bag?variant=41838104510641) I never had luck with round bags personally. Also it won't be SOLD OUT forever ....maybe drop a line.

Thanks for this tip, also, it looks like only the black one is sold out, the other colors are available. I think I'll try one.

I just got a small handlebar bag (as well as a very small frame bag and seat pack) from a company called Lead Out Gear, in LA.

Pretty small, but it looks nice and there’s several colors…

Great bag. I've tried too many. I predict you like it. I have the white x-pac and flash orange seat bag. Dig 'em.

The "hidden" phone spot is the best feature and you just don't realize how massive it it. I go all day with just that one bag.

A fiend makes these in SoCal. Fantastic bags in both fun and subtle colors. I have both a handle bar bag and a fanny pack for mtb.
