View Full Version : A question on Lake shoe sizing

In Shimano and Specialized shoes, I'm a 44.5.

I went on the Lake site, I followed their instructions for measuring my flippers and according to the numbers and their chart, I'd be a 43.5 in their shoes.

Does this seem right? Based on your collective experience, should you size down for Lake shoes? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, I normally wear size 44 in Carnac and also Luck shoes.

While I was waiting for my Lucks, I got a nearly new pair of 44 Lake CX 402s from a wonderful Paceline member. I thought they would be perfect but I found the 44 a little tight in the length department for my left foot (the slightly longer foot). The width is ok but I think I need to sell them and find a pair if 44.5 wide.

Be aware that their upper end models have a little bit different sizing than their other models.

This is just one data point, hope it helps.

I'm a 48 in Sidi and a 47 in Lake, but the 48 Sidis always felt a tiny bit long, but closer than the 47 Sidis which I think would be a bit tight. The 47 Lake feels a smidge tighter a whole size down. Both work but I wear a thicker sock in the Sidis and wear them in cooler weather. The Lakes get used with thinner socks. All that is to say, maybe try the 44 in the Lake, as the difference seems like a bit less than a whole size.

Follow their sizing guide, that's the only really accurate way of knowing how they will fit. Make sure you measure really well.

The size tables for lake are kind'a ok IMO. Thats the reason they give you like +-3 mm because is not super perfect either.

My experience, fwiw:

44 in Specialized, 44.5 in Fizik, 45 in Bonts, and ended up in a 44.5 in Lakes. They ran closer to the Bonts than the Fiziks in terms of feel.

It does. You should.
Anything else?

I am a solid US 10.5 (Euro 44) on most shoes. For the Lake CX239, I used their sizing guide very carefully and went with US10 and Euro 44 (by Lake's numbers) - the fit is right on the money. It's a little ambiguous because the Euro sizes can have a little wiggle room in the 43-44 range. Still, sized down 1/2 step in the US did it for me.

I can add to this...have history with Shimano shoes, 10.5 44.5 euro worked well and Lake shoes (shoes-very true to size in my opinion, their winter boots is another matter.)
Road shoe Lake and off road, both, don't recall numbers, three hundred something... carbon sole-higher end models each 44.5 and again very true to size imo, I wear 10.5 US.

Interesting you say that.
The only Lakes I currently have are winter boots, and I go a size up.
Do we know if they intentionally make the sizing different on the winter boots?

Shimano RP7(?) and Lake seemed very similar to me too, I ordered a ton of shoes and tried them all on, I kept the Lake's as they were the widest at the forefoot (in wide.)

Lake winter boots are overall larger volume to account for more socks (I also have a pair of those so I can compare to regular.)

Lake winter boots are made between .5 and 1 size larger than a CX402. Call it .75 larger. It isn't really enough to give the room for winter socks, so you still have to size up. Then you're pretty loose, which isn't bad in the winter. I wouldn't suggest trying to spot a size in Lakes from how winter boots fit. The winter boot fit is just different and you aren't likely to get the right size or width. Sorry about that.

I had Sidi mega 45.5. My toe was right at the end but they did not feel tight and didnt feel toe mashing. The 45.5 Lake regular width MX 331 CX version were ever-so-slightly tighter. I had both 45.5 and 46 kept and wore both when I couldnt decide. The 45.5 fit like a wax mold but I eventually sold as I wanted a little more room for the occasional second pair of socks and for walking.

YOU GOT me....I have had two different generations of their thermal boots, the earliest model seemed fairly true to size in length, yet, were so bloody narrow fit was crazy tight and cold feet were inevitable. The newer gen, which I was able to try on at shop, yeah I up sized by two(or 1.5) to a 46. However, then I became familiar with 45nrth and the lakes were history.
Their 'in season' cycling shoes are absolutely great for me and I wish I could find a 10.5 in wide width, that would be perfect....just can't swing the retail$.
cheers mack

44 in sidi, 43.5 in lake. Had an old pair of sidi that were 43 size, but always felt small.

43.5 in Lake is Goldilocks on my foot...not too big, not too small, just right.

FTR I'm a 10 in most shoes and a 9.5 in others, with a narrow foot.

I trusted the size chart completely for my Lakes and it turned out correct.

One data point.

I fit into Sidi 43.5 MEGA shoes well, but I returned my Lake CX160 size 44-wide for a pair of size 43-wide, and the fit is still comfortably generous, enough that I can wear thicker socks.
