8 speed drivetrains are not my forte.. have a friend who needs a new rear der.

Can i use more or less any brand rear der with campy 8s ergos and campy 8 wheels/cassette?

It’s working with Campy 9’s and Shimano XT rear, even Dura Ace calipers on my “winter beater”....oh the humanity

Seems like with campy shifters and cassette the "easiest" thing might be to troll ebay for an 8sp derailleur, or a WTB listing in here. Alternatively, a new Shimano wheel/cassette with a Jtek adaptor. This link might be helpful with some alternative combinations, unfortunately not as simple as just using a Shimano or Sram derailleur.

Not helpful here, but FWIW I ran 10sp campy shifters with 8sp shimano derailleurs and cassettes without an adaptor and they played very nicely together. Campy 10sp shifters and Shimano 9sp cassettes worked as well with an alternative cable routing at the rear derailleur end (though setup was less fussy after I added a Jtek Shiftmate for normal cable routing)

Thanks for the info guys!

Im however holding out for someone who has done this exactly as described with 8 campy ergos and 8 wheel / cassette from campy with random rear der.

Something tells me it will work with basicly any rear der but id like it confirmed since not for myself this time. Dont want to give advice to anyone that wont work out then id rather say nothing (obviously).

Cheers

8s ERGO levers, need some sort of 1993+ Campag rear der and any front der. 8s ERGO will not shift Campag 8s spacing with a non Campag rear derailleur. 9s or even 10s ERGO has seen some success shifting Campag 8s corset spacing with a Shimano rear der but not 8s ERGO.

I have several 8 speed RDs on the shelf if you need one. Probably no Record or Chorus.
