Last week I rode on my regular route and from the get go, I was going a lot faster than I usually do, and was practically flying up the hills. It took me almost 20 minutes into the ride before I realized what was going on.
I forgot my water bottles.
:D
things were going so well that I decided to continue and rode all the way to my designated rest stop at a convenient store 20 miles away. Fortunately. the weather was nice and cool, a mere 60 degrees.
Please share your performance enhancing experience (other than the usual suspects).

Stretching regularly. And six shots of espresso.

If I feel really good on the bike, I almost always figure out I have a tailwind

I experienced both of these today at my ride. I stretched in the morning and that did wonders to the ride later. Coming back was a blast with the tailwind behind our backs.
Louis pal, I most definitely don't know what you are talking about.
I want to say that having nice looking rabbits to chase helps,
because over the weekend I chased down 5 females racing in there own category who set off in front of me in a time trial.
But then again it might have just been my fitness that let me go so fast.
Ended up first in my category over my riding buddy, on a flat course, who out weighs me but he didn't have good looking rabbits to chase.

One HUGE thing for me is rest..good night's sleep, great ride...Poor or short..poor ride. BTW-I wouldn't recommend not taking hydration...what was it, 'drink before you are thirsty, eat before you are hungry'..on a ride?
BTW-a liter of water weighs 2 pounds..a water bottle is about 2 liters...8 pounds total..3500 grams on a 82,000 or so gram 'package..4%...
4% faster?..up a hill .6mph faster...:)'flying'........:)

kj pal, I must be hanging with the wrong crowd. I could never find a group ride that has more than 1 or 2 female riders in our midst. And even if they show up, they often hang so far in the back that I almost have to pedal backwards to keep up. :p

^ Depends on what kind of workout you're looking for...
buddy did the testosterone shots, once a week. Then after 3-4 months had heart problems. use caution, use under doctor's supervision.
Bring water, it's ok to be slow, it's not a race, your not being paid, nobody cares about your speed, your car won't leave by itself. If you need to take a SAG do it.

Lots of sleep, up at dawn, a croissant and two coffees (espresso is best). Works great.

Please use the non-deragatory term "trim" to describe females in lieu of "rabbits".

Off by a factor of two at least. A typical water bottle is less than 1 lt, 24oz or 1.5 pounds.

strong +1 on the rest/sleep issues.
Healthy amounts of sleep means a healthy level of hormones which means good recovery from workouts and less inflammation. I've also found that good sleep means less cravings for junk food, so less weight.

Hey, do you want "enhanced male performance" or not? (that's what the ads on the sports-talk radio station call it)

I am still working on your first performance enhancing tip, losing 10 pounds. Except I need to lose 40.

I am in the lots of rest up early morning crowd. A good nights sleep, a cup of real good and strong coffee, and a piece of toast with yogurt and and honey on it. With that combo I am good for a fast two hour hammerfest on my favorite loop.
Come home clean up and have a great breakfast just as everyone is getting up,
love it.

oh well, fail at math 101..guess my point is that 3-4 pounds on a 170 pound rider+bike wouldn't make the world of difference in performance....

This is very true for me also. Today was such a case where I crushed all my PR’s. Sure enough I had a good tailwind.

I have noticed, personally and by observing others, that, in the weight room, the intensity of lifting goes up significantly when there are attractive female lifters on the floor.
