RIP.

The article says his health troubles have been going on for a little while; could this be why the team was worried about continued sponsorship?

Cycling is a sport of benefactors these days, and losing one like Rihs will have ramifications for BMC I'm sure.

The BMC team has been in search of a new title sponsor for some time:

Especially one who will look the other way at the doping issues ;)

That's literally every owner in the sport, billionaire or no.

Yup. If you have any illusions that this sport is in any way "clean," I've got some swamp land in Florida to sell you...

The question is if you have any desert land on Florida to sell

From all I read today, Andy was a heck of a nice guy who had a passion for bikes and the sport of cycling. He seems to have treated the people around him very well. The world could use more people like this.

That’s a shame. Rip. BMC factory is an incredible facility.
