Caught a stick today in the middle of a nice ride in the woods. RD broke cleanly in 2 pieces. Hanger bent but didn't break. Hopefully the friend riding with me will align it :) We both walked from the trail to a small local road from where he rode to get the car and pick me up. Also, while I waited for about 45 min two different strangers approached me and offered help or a ride :banana:

Tough break. If that was a campy RD it would have carved the stick into a beautiful wine opener and flung it into your right hand. I kid. Be careful bending the RD hanger back. You may want to warm it up a bit with a heat gun (not enough to melt paint) before slowly bending it back in place. I have seen worse go back perfectly. The RD is toast, you will not be able to buff that out!! :eek:

I took triple pittty on him and fix the hanger, touched up his rust, and cleaned the schmutz off his Zanc

Future reference. An old SRP al rear derailleur hanger bolt (works with many older Shimano/Campy derailleurs) may have saved the rest of the derailleur, hanger/frame from damage.

Could have been a lot worse. I was riding with a friend (actually I was walking a rough patch but my friend was riding it) when he caught a stick, broke the RD which was carried by the spokes into the carbon seat stay which also broke. Expensive few yards of riding.
