Spoke to a ST rider today who told me his old
Raliegh International was even more vertically compliant
- if slightly less precise and heavier, than his ST.
However that the ST griped downhill bumps unbelievably.
Any one else ever compare ST to old Steel?

I am not sure if you are baseing everything on that one guys assessment, but it sounds like he may not be fully aware of the intent of the ST rear.

It is important to note that the ST is not intended or designed around vertical compliance as much as it is there to allow for better handling and cornering.

The second part of your pal's assessment was spot on. Yes, the ST, like non ST Serotta's, smooth out the bumps. Serottas ride smooth. The idea behind the ST rear was to allow for better tracking through turns and high speed handling. More consistant contact of tire to ground. Like a high performance motorcycle.

The ST is a smooth bike, but it is not solely the ST rear that does it. Serotta is who makes the smooth bikes. The ST makes them better handling.
