I have two pairs of road shoes and I want one more. I keep holding out and hoping for luck shoes to come out with their power meter line.

Three. All Sidi's. Pair one is for Looks Delta's. They are pretty worn so so the second pair is a replacement waiting in the wings. Pair three have Shimano blue cleats.

Same shoes. One white, one black.

Three.

An old pair of sidi in silver

An old pair of fizik from their first offering in white

And a newish pair of lakes in black.

I rarely wear the others since the lakes arrived.

Four road and one set of MTB.

No idea why I need so many pairs for the road but they all have their place.

Just two pair. One set of Giro Empire SLXs for road riding, one pair of Giro Republics for gravely rides.

Both have cleats for my Ritchey Micro WCS pedals to use on the same bike, where I just swap wheels for gravel/road.

I wouldn't hate having a third pair of mtb shoes in case I go do a particularly nasty offroad riding so I don't mess up the Republics while they're still kinda nice and newish and pretty.

I think I now have 4 pairs of shoes. I would like another pair or two.

How many do you have?

I just purged my closet last week. I have two sets of D2 Shoes for the road remaining. I have a pair of 1 year old powerwires that are my go-to shoes, and I have one pair of Supercrits that are 12 years old. I use these as a backup as necessary. I just threw away my older D2s that were closing in on 20 years of use, and my even older Lamson Design shoes that were from 91-92. Both sets still were rideable, but they were not being used and taking up space in my closet/Don Lamson museum

As an aside, Don looks to be closing on a house and an annexed shop facility just outside of Tuscon, and is in the process of gathering the equipment he needs to set up his new workshop and begin building new shoes. He’s on track to be building again in the next few months and I’m sure that his new shoes will be a vast improvement over his D2shoes.

Three SIDI Mtb pairs, all with Atac cleats, all for road/gravel:
1) an awesome pair of blue doninators from the 90s, rubber on soles gone but otherwise cool, and have pretty flexy soles, need to lose them
2) dominators from 8(?) years ago, thrashed looking but going very strong
3) new 'eagle' (doms with better ventilation) a gift from my thoughtful wife

The new ones are a half size larger and are SO MUCH more comfortable. What was I thinking......

Two...one road and one mountain.

For road, Fizik R1 in charcoal black. The kangaroo leather now supple from many miles of pounding the pedals. Under the tongue, green...white...red. The parachute cloth straps still have strong purchase to the velcro mesh. The carbon soles have held up well with nary a scratch...

For mountain, older Specialized Sport. Beaten...but not broken. Three strap velcro. Never had the spikes added and the screw holders are all but unrecognizable. Most of the flourishes are long gone from brushes and scrapes with rock and cactus. These shoes have nearly seen it all..snow to heat. Dust to mud. Lost count on the number of replacement cleats. These will be tough to let go.

3 pairs:
Shimano R171/speedplay zero - mostly trainer use, getting a bit long in the tooth

Was wearing Sidi Wire closure shoes but refreshed the rotation with Gaernes after finding them a better fit for me, lighter and loving the BOA fastening ease of use.
Recently picked up a pair of Fizik R1s that also fit nicely and will put these into service before heading to the French alps in SEP.

Road:
3 Gaerne Stilo G. Boa
1 Fizik R1 Boa
1 DMT Radial (rain shoes)

1 Sidi Eagle (not pictured)

I've retired 2 pair in the last 5 years. Both had those heel thingies wear out.

Currently got 4 road. 1 with gold tips, 1 yellow, 1 black and 1 that looks like a golf shoe (kangaroo leather or something unethical).

+

1 mtb plastic shoe.

There's a local cat who's purchased 35-40 pair in the last couple of years. He was recently fitted and subsequently he showed up to his LBS with all his shoes so the cleats could be installed/re-positioned. That's how you save the local bike shop.

Six that get used including four pairs added last year to replace Sidi dominator.

Giro Alpendura for cold; (ie, Sep-June in Maine). Is like a hiking boot.
Giro Terra dura. All-purpose, rough gravel, camping, touring. durable, walkable A bit heavy.
Lake MX 331 mtb version . Stiffer, lighter. Slightly less walkable. Less durable
Lake MX 331 cross version. Stiff, minimal, lightest, very comfy. Least durable.
45 North for extreme cold.
Bontrager. 10 years old. My only pair of road. Used very infrequently

Debated selling one pair of the Lakes. Ended up with two pairs due to sizing. But they are quite are different.

The old Carnac Legends are perfect for my feet...It's as if they made them from impressions taken without my knowledge. They are LONG out of production now, but fortunately, they last a long time. I scan Ebay and bike shops from time to time, and keep an eye out for them in my size and NOS. I found a pair a couple of years ago and went to put them in my storage cabinet. When I did, I noticed that there were five other pairs there in boxes, as I hadn't been keeping track. My oldest pair functions as my rain shoes and are pretty rough, but still serviceable...and 26 years old... I think I am sufficiently supplied for the near future...

Three for me:
* An old pair of Pearl Izumi road shoes.
* A relatively new (only 2 years old) pair of Shimano MTB shoes.
* A pair of Shimano winter shoes.

I'm on SPDs for both road and MTB, and finding 2-bolt road shoes that actually fit has been an issue. Thus the PI road shoes that are probably 10 years old. I dread the day they fall apart.

I have ...um... :::goes to check the closet:::

Four pairs:
- a 12-year-old pair of Specialized that I keep for riding when it's wet out
- an 8-year old pair of Specialized that I leave at my parents' house for when I go visit them in AZ (I also started leaving a bike there about a year ago)
- a 7-year old pair of Gaernes that are my main everyday shoe
- an 8-year-old pair of Answer winter cycling boots that are, duh, my winter boots

Been semi-tempted to get a new pair of the shoes just because it seems like all my cycling shoes are kinda old...but they just won't die, so it's hard to justify.

I have 5 pair ALL Sidis.

1 Gravel / Cross pair for Time Attack - Carbon Dragons

Donated my excess shoes last year.

Two pairs of Sidi MTB shoes that I alternate with on both dirt and pavement. They're lasting a long time and the buckle/clamps have been replaced. A couple of older Shimano MTB shoes down in the basement somewhere, still usable. Haven't had road shoes since the toe clip and cleat days. Thanks Yakstone for the donating idea.

Weirdly, I have three pair--but really only wear one:

newish Specialized--first choice

Specialized carbon sole--saving for good:confused:--my lovely wife insisted on buying them for me while in the store;

oldish Specialized--I save these for really crappy days, but something happened to the fit--they went into storage (hence the replacement pair) and came out not fitting the same. Could they have got that hot in non=climate controlled storage???

Maybe this year I'll try the carbon sole ones to see if they make me faster...

And all the others that are either worn out or really not usable:
S-Works
Shimano 123 (?) (leather with carbon soles, velcro straps)
Shimano Carbon (first pair of 'carbon' shoes I ever saw, they had a small 2" x 2" patch of carbon in the center of the sole with 3 studs sticking OUT of the sole and used cap nuts to secure the cleats -- had to keep'em just cuz)

Timely thread (or at least timely that I noticed it...)

The little ratchet on my old Shimano's are going so I might need to either find new shoes or maybe install a boa. That being said, I figure the Internet is useless for this sort of thing, and I ought to go to the LBS and try on a few pairs.

But things to look at - I am gathering Sidi's, Giro, Fizik, and who knows what else...(or Shimano's)

For shoes, I can't see owning more than one pair.

I'm looking at buckles for my beat up Shimanos from 2007 or so, and I guess I can repair them. But the toe box is often too tight. So maybe something newer would work...The problem is that shoe reviews seem so subjective.

I've tried on the S-works 6 (discounted from last year). The heel and upper just seem uncomfortable

Fizik R1 and R3 - nice style, comfy, but expensive

Bont Vaypor S (or riot?) - expensive, but also I can't find a place to try them on...

Shimanos: Sphyre RC9 seem nice. However, the SH-RC7 seem really comfy and the best deal out of all of them...except I'm seeing reports that the uppers aren't that durable and people have poked holes in them...

Quoc Night shoe - I can't find any to try on...

For the last 15 years I only used Sidi. I think I have had a total of five pairs of sidi shoes (including the current ones) in that time period.

I had sidis and one day I just put old suntour pedals to ride w/ normal shoes. I liked it so much i didn´t even care when both sidis, road and off road, cracked everywhere from sole to plastic cups. Sidi shoes are very expensive and don´t last. I forgot how many pairs i had already.
Good high end flat pedals give me the right traction on soft sole shoes, my knees are not stressed anymore from only one position and bike is lighter.

I was once called the Imelda Marcos of bike shoes! LOL
Now I have only 3, not 3,000.

I think it is wise to rotate your shoes every couple of days to keep them clean, fresh and they will simply last longer. I normally get good cash for used shoes I sell on eBay.

All my shoes are Sidi Wire.

I'll play:

New this winter: Lake cx237. Comfy toe box, good fit overall.
These have replaced: Fizik R1 v2, which in turn were warranty replacements for the first version. I'll keep them for spares/wet day shoes. Somehow the changes Fizik made to the v3s made them a no go for my feet. Also tried the new R3s and just couldn't fel good about them.

Also looked at Bontrager Velocis which I really wanted to like; tried Shimano Sphyre, Giro SLX, Bont something... picky feet!

Old Bontrager MTB shoes (not sure of the model)
Northwave GTX winter boots.

So four total; one (current road) gets the lion's share of the rides

What do you folks do with your old shoes? Shoes that cosmetically are shot and while not perfect from a functioning standpoint, still do the job?

Toss, donate, try to sell or just ride until they fall apart?

Ride til they fall apart. Usually on the trainer.
