CASE CLOSED, I'M PASSING

Looking at one long distance. I plan to have a shop pull the B.B. to check for seizure before boxing for shipment. But if this is a hard “no”, I’ll cut it off before then. There are only a couple other chips in the frame, it’s 853, and was made ‘99-‘00. The post isn’t stuck. And it’s an East Coast frame (Maryland).

Thoughts?

Full disclosure: it’s a piggy..

It's far from good as it looks worse under the cable guide.

Sweat corrosion from trainer duty?

Long-term damage from water bottle with electrolyte?

Stored outside/in a non-humidity controlled shed on a bike stand?

If it were me, hard pass. Too critical an area imo.

Plenty of other bikes out there that aren't rust monsters under the BB.

Thanks folks. That's why I needed to ask...

He seems like a good guy and sent that pic for full-disclosure, but I guess I have to agree. If I could see it in person, I'd pull the BB and inspect it all fully. It could just be surface rust, but it could also have sat for a long time with water in the BB, and that stuff could be deep.

I'll bump the PSA on it in case any Wash, DC folks want to check it out in person.

So, I guess now I can say...this little piggy stayed home

Not exactly.

More like...this little piggy went to the market, and the market guards promptly sent his dirty little arse back home.

Ha ha, it may not be that bad - but not a chance I'm willing to take when I can't see it in person.

Shame, I think it's a Match-built Cinghiale Pro circa '99-'00 from the research I did. 595mm TT, and looks like room for 28s easy.
