I have a ti Serotta that I purchased used and have noticed that the fittings that are in the frame that accept the water bottle bolts have some rust on them. A very small amount of rust has moved over on top of the ti frame itself as well.

How do you remove the female fittings from the frame - is that something a lbs should do?

Also, what should I use to remove the rust from the ti area once I remove the fittings - I'm assuming that they can be removed. There is also a small amount of rust both inside and outside the cable housing bracket under the frame and in the bb housing area.

Lastly what can you do to prevent this from happening / getting worse.

I believe the threaded rivets that are in the frame are aluminum, therefore the rust is from previously placed bolts. You can chase the threads with some grease on the tap, and clean the frame with anything of increasing harshness until you find what works. Not much to damage between the Ti frame and alloy inserts.
