Enjoying the day when I came across this sign. Never did see the sign that said, "Cyclists Remount"!

When I visit my brother in Houston I'm amazed by the signs outside 2 of 3 exits of his neighborhood, "No bicycles allowed on the street". That might be understandable if there were sidewalks, but alas, it's Texas (i.e. no sidewalks).

This is on our bike path "The Santa Fe Trail" I was out for an easy spin today. It's been a while since I rode on the bike path. They have Church-ed it up some. I get what they were going for but that "I" looks a little suspicious to me???

You’re gonna think I am lying but if those signs are in the hegwig village area I am at least partially responsible. Inside Houston proper they have Villages that still have their own laws and law enforcement to enforce those laws. I had several run in with a LEO during my early morning commutes. After multiple encounters and conversations with the Chief about these laws and how they were against State laws and totally unsafe, signs got posted. On my particular route there were no sidewalks on one side of the street so they wanted you to ride on a sidewalk lined with huge houses behind brick walls alonside a divided boulevard which was incredibly dangerous for a bike going against traffic on a sidewalk with car coming out from behind those walls where they would only look one direction before entering the roadway.
The Chief was gracious and agreed but basically left the conversation with, “people pay a lot of money for us to be here and have a job, we are going to do what they want.” I always wanted to sneak one of those sign before I left the area, but never did. So if you are ever in the Memorial area and see signs saying bicycles prohibited on the roadway with a big red slash through a bike, i am partially Responsible.

So long does it take for you to become a walker and not a cyclist after you dismount. At that point I would argue that you are a walker and not a cyclist and that sign no longer applies to you.

Yep, that's very similar to what my brother told me, he's in Bunker Hill and laughs every time he rides past one of those signs. My wife and I, however, get the willies

Basically you have to make what's called a "bicyclist move". This signals the transition.
Look at local guy made good Zach Ertz. By the third step he clearly had transitioned. Same thing here

i would argue that if you happen to be in MTB shoes, you become a "hiker".

What about the lycra shorts?
Most of the signs like this I see are totally ridiculous and I'll make a point not to dismount.
There is a bridge up in VT that I go over a few times a year. Totally fine to ride over with traffic, this is a rural road with no sidewalks within 5 miles of the bridge. There's not really a breakdown lane/shoulder on the bridge but it's also not particularly narrow, and it's maybe 50 yards long max, so never going to really be a thing where a cyclist impedes a driver meaningfully. (Speed limit is 35mph on this road IIRC.) It's an overpass, you come up the hill and then they expect you to dismount and walk on a little separated pedestrian thing on the side of the bridge instead of just riding on the road. I'd walk on the pedestrian thing if I was walking, but there's probably been almost no one whose ever walked over it considering how it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. The pedestrian pathway is only on one side of the bridge, so a cyclist would have to cross traffic 2X if they were riding legally on the right side of the road and approached the bridge from one side if they were going to then continue on riding on the right side of the road. And the pathway is too narrow for 2 cyclists to pass by each other if they were coming from opposite directions.
Still waiting for "drivers exit and push car." If just one of these officials was forced to do this they'd get it.

The first time I was pulled over was 5:30 or so am. The streets were empty and I was lit up with lights. The cop was cocky and arrogant. The irony was I was standing 10 ft from a green Bike Route sign posted on Voss avenue. I am not usually one to push back on a cop but we went round and round about the sign. He wanted me to believe the sign was posted to tell me to be on the sidewalk, I knew better and so did he. He eventually sent me on my way. He pulled me over a week later again with attitude. I told him I was not going to ride on the sidewalk as long as the sign gave me permission to ride the road. Again, it was 5:30 am. He tried to tell me the power company had put the sign there. That led to the conversation with the Chief, who ironically was a cyclist. He told me that his hands were basically tied, that he would tell his officer to leave me alone, and within a month signs got posted. It just so happened my job took me away a few months later. Bunker Hill is one of the village in the cluster of villages in that area. I always wondered who had the right to set the laws of the roads, city or state. I don’t know if those roads were municipal only or State hwys passing through the city. They certainly were more than just the roads of the villages. Fight the power, right?

don't try this in New Jersey over the delaware, there is a troll on every one that they pay to sit there and stop cyclists from riding across the bridges. It's literally their only responsibility. Okay, they are also supposed to stop people from riding their horses across, but who is going to do that?
Not sure why they don't use the budget to fix some potholes.

I had one of those Trolls chase me in the dark on night.....right foot on the left pedal and pushing with the left leg like a kid. yelling in my face like I was a criminal. I let him scream and scream at me, and then I just walked away. You should have heard his head pop. I admit....I did not see a light on in his little shack. Oh ya, he smelled of alcohol.

What're you, a commie? That's what's wrong with this country, everybody's got their hand out! I, personally, ride around with a bucket of hot tar and aggregate and fix my own dang potholes as our forefathers would have done.

I would argue your actions make you who you are and not the clothes you wear. So I think we are ok.

How are those new Luck custom shoes? Once I get your ride report I am going to order some only with Shimano soles so they last!!!
I should of called you but I just wanted a nice relaxing ride I didn't need you ripping my legs off. It was a bit chilly but I made it home with no frost bite.
Sign sign never wear a sign! Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?

We got those in Germany ("Radfahrer absteigen"), ofc also without the "remount" counterpart. They look official but aren't, and only official signs which have a number and are in the traffic laws have to be heeded (this *is* germany). If i'm in the mood, i touch the ground with a foot when passing them . the sign doesn't say *for how long* i need to dismount, after all.
The way this conversation is going reminds of another phenomenon we have here that maybe goes with the helicopter parenting thing.
We've got people setting up fake/non-official speed limit signs in their neighborhood because they are put off with people driving through their neighborhoods.
What they typically do is put up like a 5mph speed limit sign in a 20mph zone or something.
There is one like 1/4 mile from my house. I live on a much busier street, I'd love to have the traffic they have.

My brother used to live on E 13th st. and he'd occasionally go find some blue NYPD saw horse barriers on a nearby block and move them to his street. Used to work pretty well for a night or so.
