I am told that the parallelograms are identical between the Campy 11-speed Athena rear derailleur and 10-speed Campy rear derailleurs. Are there any other considerations? Can I expect excellent functionality? I expect Campagnolo may have some guidelines against mixing systems, but I'm hoping to get some feedback from someone who has put this into practice. Thanks!

That rear der will work great with 10s ERGO.

Related question. Is the Athena 11-speed rear derailleur compatible with Centaur 11-speed ergo shifters? Thanks!

Another related question...

Does this mean a 10 speed campy RD will work with 11s shifters and 11s cassette?

I currently have Record 10 shifters, rd and cassette. Record 11 crank, FD and chain. Can I just change out the cassette and shifters to go to 11? Or will I need and 11s RD as well?

I believe 10 record is not compatible with 11... some 11 as potenza and athena from what some say it works with 10 tho.

What doesn’t work is a 10s rear der, pre-2009, with 2009+ 11s shifters.

Slightly OT but I have some Athena 11 shifters and a RD I'll be selling shorty if the OP needs 'em.

This is curious. How is it that an 11s derailleur works with 10s shifters, yet a 10s derailleur doesn't work with an 11s shifter?

Peter C may have meant to say 2015+ shifters.

As far as I know the 10s RDs work work fine with the 11s shifters up to 2014.

The dimensions changed enough for the 11s shifters/cable pull, that a 10s rear der undershifts enough that it really doesn't work..a 11s der with 10s shifters, it 'overshifts' a wee bit but actually helps as the der centers well.

Didn't..I have tried 10s rear ders(2008 and older) with any year 11s shifters and they don't work. You have to mod the cable attach point to make the der move a little further to cure the undershift. That said, they changed the design of the 10s rear der in 2011..and those DO work with 11s ERGO shifters.

Front plate..either wraps on outside or front plate connects on inside..

the right one is not compatible, the left is..started in 2011..another way to tell is 11t pulleys(2011+) and 10t pulleys(2010 and older for 10s.)
