Jon Williams, aka Otis, aka Drillium Revival passed away last night. Not sure of the cause just yet, but he was fit as a fiddle and holds several local KOMs. we had just chatted 3 days ago about riding when he gets over the flu. im gutted

Not sure if it's related, but I had the flu nearly two months ago and am still not recovered. This year the flu was a beast. Most sick I've been as an adult. Condolences.

yes it has. It almost killed my grandma. She had to be hooked to a respirator for a couple of days.

I am very sorry to hear about Jon. I did not know him but definitely have seen his amazing work. My thoughts are with his family.

Condolences to you Matt, to Otis’ family, and all here who knew him.

It so happens I was just reading this while eating my lunch: https://cyclingtips.com/2018/03/mourning-ride-when-times-get-tough-a-simple-spin-can-work-wonders/

Maybe others will find something in it that helps.

Always sad to hear the loss of a true craftsman, or friend, or family member... and especially any combination thereof. He was talented for sure and will undoubtedly be missed by many. His work was impressive.

No, i do not think the flu got him... he was quite young (early 50s) and very fit. it is much more likely a heart issue, but its only speculation at this point.

Thanks for the link. I would put a set of those chain rings on the wall of my home office.

On his passing, well, through his work and obviously by his relationships, part if him does live on.

So sorry to hear about this, and my condolences to Jon's family as well. My dad just had to spend 4 days in the hospital to get over his flu/pneumonia combo. This year's flu has been very scary.

Terribly sad news Matt. I exchanged emails with Jon a few times about the cool bikes Jeff made for him and expressed interest in having him doing something cool for my L'avecaise bike but waited too long...

Sad to hear.

Study came out recently showing risk of cardiac event goes up after influenza... inflammation being the likely culprit.

Wait, did he do the drillium on Chapman's NAHBS entry, too!?! Oh man, that thing was gorgeous and I believe I even took his card just in case I got inspired. Damn, so sorry for your loss.
