Screwed up I am guessing.

:p:p

I'm glad I can laugh about this now. It punctured the rim (its 30mm) but the hole is not that big at all. I'm going to Gorilla tape over the hole and go with it.

(don't judge me :p)

Thrown down some tape, then glue a little patch of something hard over that...spare carbon bit or similar. Then tape again. Innertube might bulge into tape enough to puncture.

It doesn’t with spoke holes, probably won’t with this hole. Tape it, ride it.

I've heard of using tubular glue and tape, but that's going a bit overboard.

Funny. I've picked up 3 or 4 "direct shot" nail or screw punctures like that using Vittoria G+'s in the last year. I think the channels in the tread pattern may facilitate that.

Had this happen yesterday while on a organized gravel ride, while descending a paved section going about 30 mph. Heard the typical thump thump thump of a rear flat. Fortunately the screw was only approx 25mm, minimal rim damage.

Flat fixed with a new tube and emergency tire boot. Unfortunately the tire didn’t seat correctly, and of course didn’t notice until starting off again. Pulled over and had to use an additional co2 cartridge to bring pressures up to “seating pressure”, then drop it to riding pressure.

All in all, could have been worse. But how difficult is it for these construction trucks to not drop all their crap onto the roads?

The off road sections were actually smoother than the potholed and crumbling paved sections.

Spoke nipples go inside the tire.

REALLY?!? That actually makes me feel a tinnnny bit better. I just thought i had sh*t luck.

So I gorilla taped the rim, and a buddy gave me a Mr. Tuffy 'liner' for the tire. Just got done with a hilly 100K and it held up fine. But at high speeds I thought i was feeling an.......ummmm.......how do you call it: "imbalance". Didn't feel it climbing and was under a time constraint so I didn't bother looking at tire till I got home and.........well...........found this little guy.

Not sure if it's weak sidewall or if it's the Tuffy liner overlaped and bunched up on that side.
