I stumbled onto a set of XTR SPD pedals a while back and fell in love with them. They're one of the few Shimano items I will own (the other being skewers).
Are there other folks out there making kind SPD (licensed) pedals I should look at?
These have worked so well I'm not interested in changing systems.

Look just released the x-track pedals that use spd cleats. Look pretty nice, not cheap but nice.

There's a few other brands around that use the SPD interface. That said, unless you're worried about causing a rip in the time-space continuum by screwing Shimano pedals into Campy cranks, why not just stick with Shimano?

Even their inexpensive pedals (say, M540) are awesome. Only meaningful difference from the XTR level is weight.

I've really like the Xpedo look-style pedals I have. They do make SPD-type as well. Look really well-made. I'd consider them.

I've got a set of XTR pedals screwed into Chorus cranks right now. I'm just a cheap bastid and want more options for my search.

XT level pedals are pretty affordable and my default standard SPD.

I've had Chinese SPD knockoffs that started to rattle after a few strikes. I also have a pair of original M747s that have been overhauled once and are still going strong. YMMV but I doubt it.

I rode a pair of Xpedo Mountain-Force pedals for a year. They're well made, SPD compatible and lighter than XTR.

The engagement is different than Shimanos, and personally I had a hard time going back and forth between bike with the Xpedo pedals and my other two bikes with M520 and M9000 pedals. Ended up just getting another pair of XTRs.

If you're only riding one bike with SPDs, then the Xpedo stuff is worth checking out.

Issi pedals are pretty cool, spd compatible and they come in a variety of colors if that's your thing.

I use some Deore level trail (wider surface) SPD pedals (M540 I think>?) on my commuter and my MTBs. Theyre heavyish, but work exactly the same as XT and theyre regularly on sale for $30 from the UK. I am not sure how much better bang for the buck you can get!?

I got some M8000 screwed into SR cranks. I hope no one notices.
I've also had Time ATAC pedals but the cleats were made of cheese. They lasted far less then the Shimano cleats.

Yup. All my bikes (road and mtn) are M-SPD's. XTR's, mostly, but a couple of lower level pedals I've had for years and years. I occasionally repack them (3-5 years?). Don't want or need to find anything better.

I love my Ritchey WCS micro road pedals. I have not attempted to clip in with true shimano SPD cleats yet, but they're damn close. Tiny little pedals. great looking, too, imo. Also different and funky, which is always my style.

I think the MKS US-S Clipless “EZY” Rinko SPD-compatible pedals Compass sells may be worth a mention, especially if you're interested in a travel bike.
