So just noticed that I have a crack in my seat tube on my Cannondale. Does anyone know how much repairs typically run and what options I have?

Before you consider paying for repairs, have you considered it might be covered under warranty? If you're the original owner, it's worth a trip to your local Cannondale dealer.

I suggest you eliminate that as an option before other choices.

Have any pictures of the damage? That would help determine a repair price. Also paint makes a big impact on price depending on how difficult it is to match.

Try to determine if it is a crack that goes into the fibers or just a surface crack in coat. One is something to worry about, the other, not worth the bother (unless of course it is still covered by warranty)

It’s cracked all the way through the seat tube almost to the top tube.

Repairs run the gamut depending on the repair shop you choose. Send pictures to a couple places and they can probably give you a quote. I used Drew at cyclocarbon a couple years ago and he was quite reasonable and did a good job, I think it was $150 +/- for a seat tube repair at the derailleur clamp area, but mine had no paint.

I would show it to your local Cannondale dealer even if you are not original owner.

Show it to Cannondale, then figure out your options depending on what they say.

I've had lots of things replaced/repaired without proof that I was the first owner. Often companies don't want their failing products out in public.

I’m taking the bike to the shop where I bought it later this week. Hopefully they can help me out.

Report back and tell us the outcome. Good luck!

Depends on how old etc. Get the dealer to take a complete pic of the bike, a pic of the break and provide a copy of the receipt with the serial number to Cannondale. That's the standard for most companies these days, all submitted by the dealer via email to a service guy/gal on the inside. Should be drama free, if not please remember that this is between you and cannondale, dealer has no say and they are certainly not taking a loss to keep you happy

I hard a crack in my s-works

calfee (local ot me) fixed it for $400. I passed on the $200 to paint. I also passed on the $200 to decal match.

the fix is one cost.
the cosmetic work is another cost.

...be prepared to answer the question about whether u own a bike stand and whether u clamped seat tube. Also, make sure that u take full built bike to dealer for inspection as manufacturer will need to be assured that crack was inspected in context of full bike (i.e is there damage on any other part of the bike that might rule out manufacturer defect? e.g. crash or other damage). I am not implying anything, just giving u a heads up.....my experience after SIX replacement Cervelo frames in six years has made me wise.

If cannondale says no joy, send it to Drew at Cyclocarbon. Does outstanding work.

If not, just sell it to weisan-'pal'...:)

Just left the shop. They think Cannondale will warranty the frame, keeping my fingers crossed and will update with the final verdict.

You might also want to consider Ruckus Composites. They do a ton of carbon repair work in the PNW. But yeah, if you can warranty it, you should.

Great news. Cannondale is going to replace the frame under warranty. New frame set is on the way and should be up and riding again soon.
