My 10 year old son is hooked. Had fun last cross season and now wants to race mountain. The frame has to be small and have a short reach. Looking for a pretty light set-up (alum or carbon frame), disc brakes and nice-ish wheels. A kid specific bike - like Trailcraft etc - would be ideal. Let me know if you have something along these lines.

I've got this frame that could be built up as a lightweight XC racer. It is 650b, but I have a SID WCS 26" fork on there now. I probably have enough parts to build it up for him. Was going to build it up for my 10yr old, but he's happy with his 13" Ibis Mojo.

Super cool. I’m in the hunt for a new bike for my 9 yr old.
He has outgrown his mini-micro bmx and he is asking about an mtb.
If OP passes I’d be very interested.

actually i have 2, but only one is disc. I believe it is a gary fisher alum but but can check Thursday or Friday. He is 11 but 75% for height so he rode it age 9-10 after outgrowing a 24" specialized hotrock (which sadly is also still in the garage as I hate dealing with craigslist). I think it would work but will try to get a pick up in 2 days. I bought it from a petite woman. not sure on the level of wheels though...
