Yet another study that tells us we're on the right track.

Or road...

And no, this does not refer to buying another bike... ;)

The article itself: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/acel.12750/full

In order to qualify for the study, the 55-79 yr old study group of cyclists had to be able to ride 100K in 6.5 hrs (men) and 60K in 5.5 hrs (women) and be 'long-time' cyclists.

I qualify and frankly I agree. 73 this month and enjoying every minute of it.

Without any science this seems bizarrely visible to a cyclist as a bystander. You hang out with your cycling friends and then look at what other people your age look like and the non-active folks really do look like they're 10+ years older even in your 30s and 40s.

It makes me wonder if it holds true for other kinds of workouts that attract life long participants, like weight training.

The # of hours cycled is probably a big differentiator vs lots of other types of workouts.

Yeah, sometimes you look around, and think, man, are people in awful shape.

This is great exercise.

And, we all basically eat better and do less drinking and drugs, simply because we can't bike as much or as hard if we treat our bodies poorly.

That was a really well done study that took a lot of time to perform. Thanks for posting it.

It has not worked for me, as I believe that my immune system has been attacking my hair, making me balder each passing year. Every time I take antibiotics my hair seem to grow back some but I can't take that stuff indefinitely. Losing hair is one sign of aging to me.

From the pic above I guess EPO doesn't work quite as well as 'antibiotics' for you....

At least for Bjarne Riis.

It was a good read. Seems like good science. Will have to read the actual paper.

Reduces death by all causes, except car accident...

Then with Zwift...
