I think Justin only used Corima for carbon (unless you asked for something specific like Boyd).

I'd get in touch with him and ask. The source is always the best answer.

good idea eric, i'll reach out and see if he has any ideas.

in reality, i guess it really doesnt matter in the end what brand they are as long as they are serviceable.

i blame the "carbon bikes" thread for this purchase.

i am susceptible to temptation.

I don't think he's used anything but Corima.

Nick, did you get those on the bay? Saw some there a while back and they were tempting. Let us know how you like em!

Nick I was actually going to get those when they were $549. Messeage I got from PTG when I asked about the rims. That scratch in the rim kept me away. How does it look in person?

Good morning,

Thanks for your interest in the Luxe wheelset. These wheels were built with Gigantex 60/24 rims.

Best regards,

Pro Tested Gear

i did get them from ebay.

i don't think this is the same set as those were though. there have been a few luxe wheels circulating lately, but i could be wrong.

are these the ones you're referring to?

Pretty sure that Corima rims have a foam core. Also, the closest rim depth they make is 58mm.

is there a way to tell if a rim has a foam core?

You should be able to see the foam thru the spoke/valve holes. It usually fills the rim cavity other than spoke/valve holes.

Rap on it with your knuckles. Hollow sound = noncore, solid sound = core. I wish more companies used foam, makes carbon wheels so pleasing quiet to ride.

When you get ready to glue those Contis, work fast and furious for as you noted, they do not want to stretch. Also, make sure that you center them rather quickly and don't ask me how I know.

good call, i'm used to vittoria tubulars, which fit a little looser. i caught a good deal on these, but i think it's going to be a tricky mounting process.

Yes they can be a real pain tbh but once fitted i really like them. Not a good spare tire unless lots of pre - stretching went into it. I learned that the hard way .)

Agreed...I have had great luck with Continental tires, both clinchers and tubulars. My favorite tubulars are Veloflex, but I can see where those particular tires will perform well with Angry's wheels. They aren't coming loose on their own either.

You 'can' do the foot on tire, yank up on them, all around..but fairly gently as you may tear the base tape..

Nope i have a friend who dident bother to glue his conti sprinters when riding fixed.. Told him he was a lune ofc but somehow they stayed on that rim till he glued it weeks later if i recall correctly. No punctures ofc as then it would have rolled (one would think at least.. )

Gigantex?

Gigantex?

it's possible. i have no way to confirm what rims they really are.

i sent Luxe an email to inquire, but never got a response back.

well, whatever rims they turned out to be, the wheels ride great. they have definitely transformed the personality of my Focus, for the better.

Damn dude, that thing looks good with the deep carbons

I had a set of his deep wheels (73mm?). Certainly looked great and were unusually quiet- probably from the foam core. Corima brake pads were pricey but worked fine. Just a heads up to keep an adequate inflation pressure. The rims are not the most resistant to impact damage. Enjoy.

I have heard that deep dish wheels can really change the personality of a bike.
More importantly, I bet they are well built!
