Hello, I'm looking for a dark green powder coat. The bike frame is an '86 Cannondale SM600 frame and fork. I bought the frame after it had been bead blasted, which leaves me with little to compare. I've perused a few websites, but I was wondering if anyone might know which powder coat would come closest to the original paint? Probably not much to go on, but there's a picture of the dark green on page 24 in the C'dale 86 catalog. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Look for a RAL color chart online to help. I'd recommend Dormant Hunter Green if you really want it to pop. :)

Maybe try reaching out to Chip @C4Labs

He specializes in BMX but he's the man for PC, especially the 80s shades

Pretty sure you can't powder coat an aluminum frame, only steel.
I would check that out first.

Yep, icepick is correct.
If a material will conduct electricity it can be powder coated.

The issue with powder coat and aluminum is the temperature affecting heat treating, but I’d look into it a bit more. There are different types of powder coat, so one may be better than others.

Powder coat on aluminum is not a problem, as long as you are working with an experienced and knowledgeable coater.

I've had maybe 50 aluminum Cannondale frames powder coated without any negative impact. So, there's one data point for you. Or 50, depending on how you look at it.

If able I recommend looking at the color chips in person. There seems to be considerable variation when looking at colors on the computer.

That old Cannondale catalog brings back memories.

Thanks everyone, I've spoken with a couple of Powder Coaters, one closer to me who can't start until after March and the other is Groody Bros. Has anyone had any experience with Groody? I'm mainly asking because I had a powder coat on a road frame that didn't work out to well, it was done by a local guy and I'm thinking it was his first time powder coating a bicycle.

jtbadge had his former Lemond done by Groody. Came out very nicely.
