It looks as though the rain will clear tomorrow (saturday, 10/06) around 10:00 AM or so. I won't be there (riding), but hundreds of buyers and sellers will be there with some great deals, collector stuff and junk. Now is your chance to pick up that wool jersey, slightly used track bike, helmet, shoes or '75 Campy steel track pedal set. As likely as not, you will meet some pros selling their last year's bikes and kits as they transfer to other teams over the winter. In fact, I did confirmed that there will be at least one of the guys from Colla Vita who will be selling his stuff.

I will second the T-Town swap meet. It is fun. New and used goods abound. In years past there were lots of stores selling out new inventory for a song and tons of guys and gals selling or trading their old stuff.

I purchased two PI Sierra Nevada jerseys for $25 a piece. Other good deals: a bell helmet for $40 (in stores at $80), riding gloves for $10 that originally sold for $40, a Louis G under layer for $5 that originally sold for $30 … there are lots of great deals on new and used equipment.

Two fun, or painful, stories from the swap meet:

I went to the swap meet and saw a very nice looking steel Spectrum with red, green, and white paint with Ultegra. It had been ridding lightly for one season and looked like my size. The seller was having trouble selling it at $800. I told him, hang on to that bike and I’ll go home, get my shoes, and come back for a test ride. I get back 30min later and see the bike in the barking lot. What happened to waiting until I got back! Some guy bought it for $650. He let me ride it around for a minute in the parking lot. It felt nice so I offered him $700. I told the guy, hey you’ll make $50 in the parking lot what a steel! He didn’t bite, so I offered $750, then $800 all this happening in the parking lot. He promptly shoved the bike in his trunk and left saying, “my wife is going to kill me.” I still wish the seller had waited another 10min and let me bid on it. I should have given the seller a few bucks to make him feel confident in my return. ARGH!

My friend and I are at the swap meet. I bought my CRL with 42 / 53 chain rings. I wanted a 39 up front and went looking through the bins. No one seemed to just have a single 39 campy ring, so I bought a Veloce crankset w / rings for $25. At another booth, my friend finds Shimano 105 7 speed STI shifters he wants for his bike and this guy has a new record 39 record chain ring. We trade him my Veloce crankset and $20 for the shifters and Chain ring. Gotta love that.

If you are in the area, it’s worth a trip.

1. Where are you going to put the table?

2. What am I supposed to do with this slightly used piece of carot cake?

Thanks for the pics manet!

You know...the sticker bike would be perfect for the guy looking for a styl'n ride for around campus. Unique and very identifiable...nobody would steal it.

congrats, you seem to have morphed into TK; hope you're that fast. But about manet's pic, and it ain't his fault, but I wouldn't ride with that thing unscrewed and held together by a zip tie, not to mention the electrical tape on the gizmo.

Funna "ha ha" or "scarey clown"? Inquiring minds you know?

That seller looked like he'd just quit doing the messanger dealio in Philly...dumped all his garabage on a bedsheet and was looking to sell it to someone as shabby shiek.
