I am frequently amazing how knowledgeable and helpful you all are.

I was so excited to get power.

I bought the book "training with power".

I cannot get power as a field in the 520 display.

The edge 520 connected to my stages power meter. When I try to add power as a data field it offers Balance (right to left), and PCO, and Phase (power phase). But not Power. What is going on? Do I need a difference display (not the edge 520). Or do I need a different power meter. I bought the "GEN 2 STAGES POWER | XT M8000 $519.99". Should I buy the "STAGES POWER L | XT M8000 $579.99"?

I took off a raceface crank on my new bike and installed an XT crank. So I could move the power meter around from my 29 plus rigid to my Deadwood.

Have not used Power with the 520 but gave it a quick Google Search for you and came up with this link. Maybe can be of some assistance?

The 520 should have a "power" field:

https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/edge520/EN-US/GUID-D833DA3E-E3DD-4DEF-A0E9-802451B0604C.html

Have you scrolled all the way through? If they are listed the same order as that website, it's not all alphabetical.

It's there. You should see many variables from power to 3 second power to 15 second power to avg power etc.. I think you are looking at Garmin's cycling diagnostics that are mostly applicable to their pedals.

I use the 520. I get power & a jillion other things. 3sec power, 10 sec power, avg power, lots of stuff.
You have to get to the menus to add the fields you want to the pages you set up. Can have several different pages, each set up differently.'
I use it for my PowerTap & Quarq meters, so it should work with your stages.

Thanks for all you help.

I selected power and all I saw was Balance, 3 sec balance, and lap balance.

But needed to scroll down. Then I found ave power, and lap power.

Sorry to bug you all.

Before I asked for help, I search the help pages on garmin and stages. I reset the 520, and reconnected the power meter. The thing I should have done was scroll down.

I feel foolish.

Thanks again.

Pretty sure the book recommends 3sec. average. It's easier to work with for all but the shortest of intervals.

As others have stated the 520 has all the power fields you can think of. The Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt has plenty as well. That said I much prefer the Bolt. The display is SO much easier to customize than the Garmin...which takes a bizillion clicks and sub menus to do so. Also, the Bolts display is much more readible. Real time power data during is much more useful during a ride or race if you don’t have to squint too much to see it.

I’ve had both and the Garmin user experience feels like it was designed by a bunch of engineers using Excel tables as their template. The Bolt feels like Wahoo actually used a real user experience design team.
