Finally found a great classic MTB for soon to be 11 year old. A nice Fat Chance Yo Betty 12”. What is your favorite trail riding tire, with light weight the first consideration? All 75 pounds dripping wet is not going to provide a lot of force to the pedals. I want to make riding as easy and fun as possible for her.
I like Quasimotos on my 650B bike. What is similar in 26”?

No recommendation, just wanted to say what a crazy cool bike for your daughter! You are setting a hard precedent to keep up with as she gets older haha

My preference is Schwalbe Racing Ralphs. Seems to be a great all around tire for the trails here in Michigan.

Maxxis Maxxlite. Not a ton of tread, but boy are they light!!

Geax (now Vittoria) Saguaro has a similar sort of tread...
Not sure of weight, though.

What kind of surfaces will she be on? Will it be a on/off road mix?
IRC Mythos are a decent lightweight tire for most terrain. They come in 1.95" and 2.1" widths and both are under 600 grams with the narrower version weighing around 520.

Hutchison Mosquitos are very light if you can find them. They wear fast too though.

I just put the repop Smoke/Darts on my original 1992 Yo Eddy, but they have never been “lightweight”. Back in the day, the Ritchey Z-Max was the lightweight tire of choice.

I second the Mythos choice. The IRC Mibro Marathons and Hutchinson Pythons aren't bad either. I plan on trying out Panaracer Comets soon.

IBack in the day, the Ritchey Z-Max was the lightweight tire of choice. ugh, I bought the Zmax when it first came out.. just had moved to CO and racing in the state championship series, a big 20 mile loop for "sport" class. Ripped the front sidewall at mile 9, 2+ hour walk, never used them again. sorry to derail, just bad memories. Yo Eddy is definitely a cool looking bike, congrats

+1 for the Racing Ralphs, in a mid-tier casing and set up tubeless. These have worked well for my daughter, on a mix of surfaces. She's not likely to wear them out before growing to the next size bike, so I can't compare to others.
I've used the IRC Mythos in the past, they were fine too.
My preference is Schwalbe Racing Ralphs. Seems to be a great all around tire for the trails here in Michigan.
