The course looks crazy hard. The U23 women’s race looked tough, Evie Richards passed out at the end and had to be carried into the tent.

The women’s race should be exciting, maybe this will be the year KFC finally wins??

Wow, I can’t wait to see MVDP tear up the course tomorrow.

2nd. KFC ran through the pits and Cant caught her at the pit exit and never looked back.

Anyone, noticed KFC's kit? She was wearing a National Champs kit. Not a USA team kit. I guess her team packed the wrong kits. I'm sure the UCI gave here some ****.

27yr-old

39-yr-old

age and running made the difference

both at absolute limit

Disagree on age.

Compton pushed Cant to the point of collapse.

Evie Richards DID collapse in the U23 after the finish.

Brutal race won by the athlete with just a bit more endurance.

Yep - I was wondering about that too. I don't recall ever having seen a rider in a world title race being allowed to race in a jersey that differed from the std national team jersey worn by the other riders representing the same nation.

Did you watch the race? KFC pushed the 'youngster' almost the entire race.

No mistakes vs a couple..

Wow. Wout put on a clinic. I wonder what was up with MVDP today, it looked like he wasn’t even going to make it on the podium towards the end of the race.

So many front derailleurs out there - even on SRAM bikes! I guess 2x isn't dead after all.

Wout showed the world why he's the world champ.

such great races at Worlds this year - the women's race was fantastic and the men's was great as well. I am so happy that VDP didn't run away with it as everyone had expected.

The first four in the women's race were all national champions.

When's the last time that happened?

I think (i'm not sure) but some of those SRAM 2x were Etap so I think you need the FD for it to pair correctly

Sram 1x for CX rules imho.

I will be interested to hear the theories on what happened to MVDP today. Perhaps a kidney misfiring???

On the UCI channel they were talking about the riders with shimano running 2x with the electric drivetrain as well per sponsor requirements. I know nothing of electronic shifting or going fast enough on a cross bike to use all the gears a 2x provides. I’m usually in the easiest gear I have and am wishing it was easier. :)

“I didn’t make many mistakes. Wout was far above the others today. Mentally it’s very difficult to come here with the goal of becoming world champion and in the second lap you already realize that it’s not going to happen. It was mentally hard. The crowd - which was a real good crowd - pulled me through the difficult moments today,” Van der Poel told Sporza.

I tuned in a little late, and missed the first 2 laps. :(

MVDP has won 26 times this season. That is obscene. Just unfortunate for him that he had a bad day this particular day, while van Aert had a great day. He should leave CX and come to the road this season anyway.

TimAZ

I think you will see Wout out there in more road races. Would MVDP trade his entire season for a rainbow kit? I'm assuming being dominate an entire season is a better payday then winning worlds. Maybe being WC gets him level with contract earnings? I was pulling for MVDP. Have been a fan of his since Kentucky. I like the way he rides. He's out there having a good time with all the showboating. Top 5 riders came in at gaps of up to 4.5 minutes. Sounds like a really hard day to me. Wout crushed it. Alberts made a living beating Sven in WC races. It's no wonder he's Wouts coach. Sven dominates all season and gets beat by Neils in the WC races. Sounds familiar.

super bad day for Van Der Poel. he's human, after all. I mean, he got beaten soundly by Vanthourenhout. that doesn't happen too often.

I'm a VdP fan, but I love Wout's win yesterday.

If VdP, like so many other times this season, solos to a 2 min plus win by just riding away on lap 2, then we don't have a real rivalry anymore. Now, we have the dramatic storyline next year - no matter how good VdP looks during the season, will he have it together for Worlds?

As a professional tire guy, the following article made me smile:

https://www.cxmagazine.com/worlds-tech-tire-tread-swap-van-aert-van-der-poel-valkenburg-limburg

TL;DR

4 of the 5 winners were on 33c Challenge Limus tires, while Wout did it on a 30c Dugast Rhino.

it was all about traction out there. i was at Valkenburg shooting for CX Magazine and just about ate it a few times running around the course. brought a bit of the Cauberg back on my boots.
