I have a paint code, would love my stem to match my frame, which is a custom color. No idea where to get something like this done or where to, alternately, get a can of the paint to paint the stem myself and maybe touch up a couple scratches on the frame. Automotive paint shop?

Having the code is the hard part and you have that already...

Go to the internet and put the code, several companies sell car paint online, even at ebay.

Second option is to find a place in your city that actually sells car paint, no idea where you are but just google it, more than somebody will show up. You give the guy the code, buy the clear, the clear activator and thinner and you are good to go. Forgot the primer, self etching primer for metal, I would try acrilic primer, it will move with the metal, less chances for the paint to crack.

Hope this helps.

ps: dont buy a gallon, buy half a pint, the smallest clear is like a quart, same with the thinner, the activator they sell them in small cans aswell.

Try Spectrum in Boulder - they paint all the Mosaic bikes (actually owned by them).

I bought some touch up paint for my car on-line, many years ago. Wish I could remember the address. They sold it in various sizes and quantities; I picked up primer, color coat, and clear, all in Testor's model paint sized glass jars.

Try HERE (https://www.automotivetouchup.com/), and google "automotive touch up paint" for more choices.

Another one for you (depending on where you are located) - paintmybike.com could do the work. Some of the best in the business.

I've ordered from Coast Airbrush several times with success.

Best part is that you can get paint in containers as small as 1 oz

Give PaintScratch.com a shot, but not sure if they'll do a color code unless it was a car color to start...

I had some touch-up to do on two vehicles and got spray primer and color-coded spray paint from Napa - had to be ordered and wasn't cheap. But it was a good match and the repair has held up well for a few years.

I just ordered Rustoleum aluminum primer and semi-gloss black spray paint (ebay and Amazon) to try painting a set of my Sugino AT cranks to match chainrings that just come in black (Wickwerx 41-33). A lot cheaper than new or even used cranks and BB if it works :-)

If you have a small compressor, get an airbrush and a set of the standard colors for airbrushing like this one (https://airbrushpaintdirect.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/4948-01-semi-opaque-set.jpg).

Assuming it is non-metallic, you can mix and match until you get the exact color you need.

Process:

1. apply SprayMax 2K epoxy primer (rattle can)
2. sand
3. spray base coat with the airbrush
4. apply SprayMax 2k clear coat (rattle can)

The whole thing sets you back maybe $120 - $150 but everything other than the rattle cans (they need to be activated and then used up within a few hours) can be reused for other repairs and projects.

I did this to repair a cracked dropout on my Serotta CSI and the result came out perfect.
You can check it out here: Serotta CSI fix (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=164837).

It was really fun to do and having it done yourself will add to the overall satisfaction IMHO.
