A lot of excitement over these a few years back but seemingly harder to find at the bigger retailers. Any long term reports? Mostly interested in the 35s. TIA

Should have figured Weisan would be all over it.

Ok, back to regularly scheduled programming aka Tire Talk.

Huh?

Hey pals, you lost me there. What does Nomads has anything to do with SKY?
Care to enlighten?

I do have a pair of Nomads which I have used in my commuter bike for a short period of time. We were doing our regular lunch ride on the smooth gravel trails around the lake. I went around a corner a bit too fast and the tires skidded on the gravel and I crashed. nothing major but I took those tires off pretty soon after mainly because they are not as supple as I like . In any case, not having the best experience with it. I still have that pair sitting at the bottom of the pile.

The OP completely changed the thread after I posted a link to your thread. I look like an idiot, I still am but nit right now. The original thread was about Sky getting busted. :fight: you had it covered.

I ran these for a long time, and the 45s as well. Never used the 28s. Their main virtue is their low cost without being too turdly (no explicit puncture belts, etc). The 35s run small, more like 32mm at most. They aren't supple as Weisan points out. I had a terrible time with the 45s on gravel with sliding and poor traction on descents, though I probably ran them at too high a PSI (it was a long time ago now). The 35s were great all-around road tires for me though and I liked them for what they were. Sturdy enough and I enjoyed the skin wall look.

Chazz pal thanks for chiming in. Now that you mentioned, I do want to clarify that the ones I have are the 45s.

^yup
they have been great on the road but have had several flats on very minimal fire road. Also not surprised you say they run small, thats what i was thinking too-- 35s here

I ran a pair of the 45s (closer to 39/40) for a while on a CX commuter a few years back. I will third or fourth the experience of a scary lack of traction in fast corners. They were still an entry point into the world of fat slick clinchers that weren't touring tires before groading became a "thing" and Gravelkings and Compass became available.

oh yeah the 35s measure more like 32. The gumwalls are impossible to find and have been for a few years (maybe they stoped making them?).

I would run them again on my commuter but prefer something a bit more supple and nice on my other bikes

I used the "35"mm and the 28mm Nomads for a while. Rode fine, not great, but when they wore down they were incredibly flat prone.

I've since moved to Gravelkings on all my bikes. Not a whole lot more $$ than Nomads, but far far better all around.

Echoing Kevan's comments. I had the same experience with both tan wall and black in 35. Moving back to Paselas for commuter duty and Gravel Kings for the fendered road bike has been a good call.
