Hi there; My 11 yr old beagle is drinking more water and peeing than usual. I have to refill his water bowl 4-5 times a day whereas before it was 1-2 times a day. Very healthy dog. Still playful. Gets decent amount of exercise. Not overweight like most beagles ( kids know they can't feed him anything etc etc)
Could diabetes be crippling in?
Thanks all in advance

you probably already did the google, but your "doggie do dog" probably needs a vet visit. grab our heartstrings with that photo. hopefully not serious:

Yup. A vet visit is on the works for a second opinion . Just appealing to the forum vast knowledge prior to it ;)

Here is another one:

For our old girl this was the beginning of kidney failure. Take him to the vet asap.
(and it might be something much less severe)

Same here, kidneys. In some cases it could be a urinary tract infection, but most likely the kidneys. Very common in dogs and cats and, if caught reasonably early, good chance it can be maintained.

Not a vet, but definately go see one. If i recall correctly one of our dogs had similar symptoms, and otherwise behaved "normal" , was just a uti and antibiotics got her sorted. Our other dog had kidney disease, and after we adjusted his diet the numbers improved steadily for his last year with us until a brain tumor reared it's head.

Yes, asap. This happened with my parents' dog. They did not think the dog's 'drinking problem' was serious enough to merit a trip to the vet. Poor beast died overnight in her sleep a week or so after the symptoms appeared. Young dog. Kidneys.

Hopefully nothing serious. My previous dog started drinking lots of water and she had a UTI. After that it kept coming back over and over. No sense getting ahead of things. As others have said "get to your vet".

Lots of drinking, lots of peeing, but no vomiting?
If vomiting, do not give more water.

In any case, yes, you should take your dog to the vet asap.

I’m not a Vet but was raised by one. Go see your Vet and have your pup checked out. He may be having an issue with his kidneys.

My sister's dog had the exact same issue, and it turns out that the dog became diabetic. Now, she has to give him daily shots for insulin, but he's back to normal. Go to a vet and get it checked out much sooner than later.

Just to pile on with everyone else agreed with kidney possibility. Not a vet, but partially involved with rescue, so seen everything and have a rescue of my own with zero immune system.

Also look into UTI especially if there is extra "cleaning" going on, or lots of little squirt peeing (different from marking), or discomfort while peeing, or sniffing of the pee afterwards, or crying or groaning with peeing. My dog gets about one of these a year, but girl dogs are more susceptible to them.

Lastly, have a blood panel done. It's not cheap, but could bring many things to light such as Cushings disease which has a symptom of excess thirst and often onsets later in life.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

And obligatory recent pic of our girl. We think she's 9-10

Does he still have an appetite?

What color is his pee?

Also does he have a habit of getting into things?

Not a vet but a long time hound dog owner. (Beagle-walker hound-foxhound etc)

This is good info to bring to your vet visit
