Highlights
1) i forgot my camera
2) 12lb-ish Parlee with integrated seatpost was the best rig there bar none.
*who cares about the 12lbs.. the frame was amazing. i'm sure it will be all in the mags.
3) The Scotts look better in real life than in pics
4) No Serottas there *pouts*
5) missed running into Obtuse
6) that new Fizik saddle is a work of art (with the clear gel)
7) Saunders in full pimp mode at the Time booth (But boo to Time for only doing gloss finish next year, that matte carbon was special)
8) Sidi's looking good.. the perfect heel cup and finally all carbon soul
9) The stainless steel Pegoretti is hand painted ala Basquiat. It's free handed Dario at his mad best and is right up there with the Parlee as most interesting rig.
10) Fred Rod, DZ, Eddy, Peg, Giamondi sightings.
11) I want to do bad things to the Limar girl (think michelle pfeifer in Scarface)
12) The Look 595 Ultra in black is the one. White looks dead in real life.
13) the gold campy wheels look great in real life, the red fulcrum ones do not.
14) Sock Guy Sex Pistols socks. oh yeah!!!!!!!
15) Orbea Orca as industrial design.... very special as a design piece.
16) Niner 29" full suspended mtn bike. um, wow.

more when i am around manana. trust me.... Parlee.. 5k plus cash dollars. beautiful. Start saving.

and the darkside.. china alley.. table after table of nice chinese gents (i mean that sincerely) with curiously familiar looking carbon tubesets and frames just waiting for your bike company logo... and then there are the bikes with the big comany logos and its the same rig.
sorry.. cell phone pic of the parlee no goooood.

p.s... i don't think the cannondale deal went through with quick step. i think specialized might be trying (rumour alert). also.. i don't think orbea is going for csc (rumour alert). really good stuff coming from specialized....

Man - I would wear those socks. I am not a big fan of logos and labels on any type of clothing, but those are understated and very classy.

I wish that I had those for my wedding. OK, maybe not, but very nice socks.

Where can I get a pair? Ebay, prolly.

Pistols socks? Do you have to pierce your top tube with a few safety pins?

Many, many Parlee shots on the fairwheelbikes forum or linked to that spot through weightweenies.

Any reason not to name the Chinese frames with the big name logos?

I hope good stuff coming from Specialized is something other than curved top tube frames. First the world tries to get me to like compact frames and then the TTs get swoopy (no pun intended). For a carbon fanatic, I sure feel like a fuddy duddy.

I think Specialized did a good job for '07 cleaning up their lines and making ALL of their bikes a bit more attractive, less curvy in the wrong places.

the integrated seat post parlee was cool but their new Z4 model looks lame. sorta built by someone else, not a genuine parlee IMO.

dario's paint on new SS bike is insane and amazing.

saw eddy up close and personal. as someone with me said, this is as close as i'll ever get to god.

the china section of the show is, i think, a view of the future. the biz will soon be about making stickers in the u.s. cause everything else will be made there.

honestly, very little oh-my-god stuff, at least for me. carbon bikes are all looking the same. and it felt like 80% of the bikes were carbon.

cliff bar had a booth with tons of free samples. lordy, bike geeks love free samples.

we should all go into the carbon bar business. someone explained to me the actual costs of a $299 bar. dudes, let's build our own (or rather lets get a chinese firm to build 'em.) the mark-up is insane.

best rumor i heard: in a year or 2, look for a very cool bike to mark the 20th anniversary of a very notable achievement. i'm beginning a free PR campaign for a swell bunch of folks. and trust me, this bike_won't_ be built in china.

finally, if you like messenger bags, check out crumpler bags. great bags and very cool nice aussies make 'em. wish they were giving out free samples!

right idea but discussions are underway about making the frame itself someplace closer to the achievement. nothing finalized but if the pieces fall into place, will be very cool.

well, think of just about every mass produced carbon frame minus a few.

I can think of lots of frames. The question is whether any would be a surprise. Exceptions I can think of: Serotta, Calfee, Parlee, Crumpton, Trek (high end), Look, Time, Merckx, Colnago (high end), Rue Sports, maybe some Orbeas depending whom you believe. Did I miss any? Any of the obscure Italian brands?

well.. one of these brands has a facility in north africa, 4 of the brands are boutique and not mass produced, one's carbon frames have the dropouts put on in belguim, one is made in the east but designed in spain... and for all of them, where the frame is made says nothing about the quality.

for me, it's seeing that some frames are very much mass produced.. and that is a vastly different experience, with different problems and solutions that have to be addressed in order to bring the product to market.
boutique builders face a different set of problems and have different solutions.

and i think in a billion subtle ways, there is a difference between the two. i am not saying that one is better than the other.. i am saying that the finished product is a result of solving different problems inherent to each process. the gestalt is really interesting to me. again.. i don't see a hierarchy... just overlapping but vastly different obstacles to the end result.
and that result makes for products that address and compensate for different obstacles and limitations long before it makes it to being ridden.

it's a complex industry and the numbers of frames produced is pretty phenominal...

The engineers at Limar are probably all behind that campaign, but evidently the company itself doesn't think the product they produce is technically superior enough to sell without skin. I can hear them now. Well, we didn't innovate much this year, we just changed the colors...I know! Hire a hottie and we'll distract the consumer with lots of skin!

To actually market a product that way today?
Widens the gap of respect.

And yeah...guys...parts of this thread probably offend other visitors to this site.
Mostly the dog with the underwear...Swoop...can you maybe put that as a link?

(A girl could never wear those for her guy again...he would always visualize the dog in them...and if she didn't know about the pictures she'd wonder why he always burst out laughing when he saw her in that particular set. Horrors!)

Lumberjack Song

I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night. I work all day.

Mounties : He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Mounties: He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars.

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around in bars?!

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Mama (or Papa in later versions)

Mounties : He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra?!

Chorus : I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

Does Basso qualify as an obscure Italian brand? I have a couple Basso frames (non-CF) and was perusing their website, where there are pictures of the Diamante CF frame being made, presumably in their Italian plant. They don't seem to have a US distributor at this time.

Otherwise, Guru and Aegis don't seem to be of Asian origin either...
