here's a 5 minute cross video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTqpPUopv9A). This is one of the "smaller" races in Oregon and look at the turn out. What's amazing is the single speed group is nearly as big as the B group. Enjoy.

Just curious, why are the hurdles so narrow? That dropoff is awesome! Did anyone hop the hurdle and ride it?

I wonder...
since there was already a "skills testing obstacle" in that corner, was the barrier placed there to limit the crashes and/or erosion? otherwise, it seems like a questionable placement of barrier. it seems common in local 'cross courses to design to negate rider skill, has anyone else thought that?

hey, that sure is a big turnout in the Bs though, I agree.

umm, that particular race is always different. Traditionally, the course has been a combination of a traditional cross race with a short-track mountain bike race. The venue was almost lost because there was a series of wooden bridges that criss crossed the creek that were destroyed from cross races and locals riding mountain bikes.. All the proceeds of Sunday's race went to the high school cross country team to help them rebuild the bridges. For the first time in 3 years, I attended a different race in Seattle on that day.

As far as desigining courses that negate rider skill, that occurs more often at the "national" level. The uci guidelines and officials very much resist courses and obstacles that are highly technical. The most technical courses I've seen have all been at the local level. The "big" races seem to be far more wide open and fast.

It's my opinion that cross is moving ever farther away from it's jungle cross roots and resembles more of a bike race. With the field sizes being what they are these days, I welcome it.

Yeah, the Bs had a big turnout. Have you ever seen a single speed group that large?
