Does anyone here know if there is insurance specifically for mudslides/debris flows? My homeowner's agent says there isn't and that there's a ratio of water to mud & debris after which they don't cover damages.

We have flood, earthquake, and wildfire insurance on top of our standard homeowner's policy.

I don't have a good answer, but five feet of snow and sub-zero (Fahrenheit) temps don't look too bad right now: http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2013/08/syracuse_safe_cities_natural_disasters_refuge.html

Difference in conditions policy. I think. My folks bought one because their house is next to a cliff.

Ryan is right, try the DIC. But your agent is also right and the fine print can be a killer for exclusions. Good luck.

I don't know, but as a former geology student from the LA area, I commend you for looking for it. Debris flows are serious business, and many people do not know about them.

(Read the chapter on them in John McPhee's "Control of Nature" if you haven't already...)
