2017 was a tough year cycling wise. Didn't get out anywhere near as much as I wanted to or have in years past, due to my daughters softball schedule. I missed out on so much cycling, but I wouldn't trade the time I spent watching my girl play for anything in the world.

While out, I was able to get some great shots for my IG page though. Didn't ride as many miles, but still had a ton of great memories. Here's a handful of my favorites from 2017

I feel a little like I'm showing off here, but I hope people enjoy it. I spend a lot of time and energy out shooting, post-processing, and trying to learn more about photography, locations, and weather. I'm hitting limits on the file sizes, so I'll post a few here for now and come back. Sorry for the watermarks; I've had work stolen before.

/1/ Yosemite's iconic "firefall". For a few weeks a year, if the conditions are right, a ribbon waterfall is lit by the last light of the setting sun.

/2/ From the same trip, spring runoff on the mighty Merced river.

/3/ On the hills above my current town, winter rains can turn the hillsides green and verdant rather than their normal tan-gold-brown colors.

Angry pal, I would gladly join u....for a week. After that, you are on your own buddy. The horses at home...er...I mean, the bikes at home need tending.

Back to the topic.

I gave up taking pictures or carry a camera to concentrate more on the ride awhile back. Now that I have an iPhone, I am trying to get back to it but got some warm-ups and catching up to do, those photo taking skills have deteriorated.

Anyway, some of my favorite photos taken by pals here are in that gravel (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=125867) bike thread. I love seeing bikes in their natural environment.

Moving into the summer, my big trip this year was to hike the Huayhuash circuit in Peru. Eight days of hiking, generally above 10,000' and hitting a high point of 16,700'. They're an amazing set of mountains. I did a few backpacking trips into California's Sierra Nevada to get in some altitude acclimation before heading down.

Here's one of my favorites. I used to hand feed him peanuts at the midway point of my 40 mile daily rides, when I would stop to eat an energy bar. He would sit right next to me while I ate. :)

Back to the High Sierra after returning home to California:

/1/ Wildflowers ("shooting stars") in one of the high basins above timberline.

/2/ Dawn twilight above one of the lakes in that same basin -- but on another trip, as I'm chasing a photograph from up there that I haven't yet gotten right.

/3/ The total eclipse along the Oregon-Idaho border. It was amazing: like being on another planet.

Some great riding memories this year even though I didn't get out as much as past years.

Rode in BC on some non paved trails and then a pic from a ride into a canyon where they closed the road (woot!)

Sort of.

My wife's family is involved with a land trust that's 19 miles outside of Homer.

It is an amazing place to visit in the summer. We are into deep sea fishing and it is impossible to go wrong in this area.

Couple of bonus shots.

We try to go to Banff at least once a year. Beautiful area. I forgot my camera this year so the phone had to suffice.

I missed out on so much cycling, but I wouldn't trade the time I spent watching my girl play for anything in the world.

Watched and coached my daughter play softball through HS and made a ton of trips to the east coast to watch her pay in college. Missed a lot of rides, etc. but I'm with you, I wouldn't change any of it. There'll be time to ride later.
