Anyone with experience on the salsa bucksaw? Mtb/fatbike best of both worlds, or master of none?

I think it would be fun in the right terrain. Rocky, rooty stuff. Anything smoother and it might be overkill. I love fatbikes, and I love full suspension, but mixing the two in my area would be unnecessary.

I was thinking a spare set of wheels with 2-3” tires for summer

I have a fully rigid fatty and it rules ... but I took a short ride (like two minutes) on a Bucksaw and it was awesome. Not a lot of hand-on experience, but I liked it

A buddy of mine has one and absolutely loves his. He has a $10k Epic World Cup 29er and I think he rides his fat bike more. Raves about it.

Test rode one for 25-30 minutes on a pretty rocky, technical trail. Very impressed. At one point I stopped to look behind and marvel at what I just successfully rode through. The bike made me a much better rider than I am. Babyhead rocks and large exposed roots became a non-issue, didn't even look down to try to avoid 'em.

Didn't know about this bike, pretty darn cool! Reviews seem universally glowing.

Also look at the Trek Farley EX, Foe Mutz and Lenz Fatillac for other fat squishy options. The “27.5 Fat” wheel size trend is gaining steam, and a lot of fast/experienced riders are loving them.

Ideally I could afford a 27.5 + and a fatbike....but this does look appealing. I’m guessing it might struggle to keep up with true mtb in the summer months

My hardtail, steel fatbike is within a second of my times on my Full suspension 27.5+ Carbon Bike. It’s amazing what you can do with insane amounts of traction, plus your “lines” are quite a bit more forgiving on a fatty.

A fatty with a spare set of 29+ wheels would be a hell of a lot of fun. Something with shorter chainstays like a Kona Wozo, Surly Wednesday, Otso Votyek...

The guy I bought my Salsa Mukluk from this summer was moving up to a Bucksaw... said it was amazing to ride. "No comparison".

OK by me, as the Mukluk is going to be used in snow, where the perceived differences are probably much less and the flotation of the 4.8" tires are a huge plus.

But if I was buying a fat bike for warmer weather MTB'ing...

Dual suspension fatbikes are amazing. I’ll always have one in the quiver. I rode a Turner King Khan for 2.5 years. It was not a slow bike, many PRs and KOMs were set. I had no problem keeping up with the “ fast” guys.
The versatility is what I love about them. Mostly 27.5+ for summer and 26x4” spring and early winter. Studded 27.5+ is a hoot on iced over trails.
The Turner is gone and I’m now on a Foes Mutz.

In 26x4” mode.
