I had read about his story a few years ago. Perhaps the thread title shuld be changed.

I did not at all know who Mike Rust was, so I Googled...

This is probably a better article/overview to link: https://www.bicycling.com/culture/people/the-lost-father-of-mountain-biking

I have asked the mods to delete the entire thread, but none seem to be online right now.

Why?

Seems to me to be a dis-service to Mike to somehow not talk about the cool stuff he did and is still out there from his work just because of his unbelievably tragic end.

It's a cool stem and a cool bike.

Just woke up to the PM request.

I see no disrespect in the OP or the comments. It is a cool item of cycling history and a sad story about the creator. Nothing inappropriate.

If folks want this to “go away” it can sink to the bottom when people stop posting. Or, we can take it down if that is the general consensus.

Hey, I learned a little about what seems to have been a pretty unique character and adventure cycling pioneer. There is sadness in the circumstances surrounding his passing, but that in no way diminishes his accomplishments.

While the original post was perhaps tongue-in-cheek, there is no hint of disrespect to be found.

IMO, leave it up.

Leave it up. I had no idea about Mike Rust. Now I do.

I had never heard of Mike either. My first Mtn bike had elevated chainstays, now I know where, or from whom, they came from. It is a strange and sad story, but at least there was some sense of closure after such a lengthy time.
