So I have a new frame that will not fit anything over 25mm comfortably. I got some vittoria rubinos that I was saving for this, 25mm but when in the rim they measure more liek 27mm. Well, they are about 1mm on each side on the stays.

So I need something that measures 25mm on the dot :) and on a wide rim, at least as wide as a boyd altamont lite

I have paves in 27, lightly used, how big are yours? 25? maybe we could trade :)

it would seem a reasonable guess that if 25c rubinos measure out to 27mm on your rims, 23c rubinos would measure out to 25mm?

you're probably upstate, but i have a ton of tires over here if you want to drop by one day/evening and test fit a bunch. i dont have any rims that wide or i would do it.

More simply, you could sell me the Altamonts.

thanks for the offer Nick! I am indeed upstate but back in the city next week so if I can't get an answer for sure that is a sure fire way.

you don't happen to have a vittoria corsa g+ in 23 do you?

that is really the tire I want, I saw somewhere the 25 measures more like 27 so does the 23 measure 25?

As soon as I saw this thread I clicked on it to suggest the Veloflexes. You won't be sorry.

I think those are in my future. Now, should Igo black or gum on a white bike

The answer is always gumwall.

My Lobster has brownwall Panaracers, but I'm going to switch to something with brighter sidewalls when they wear out, this Stelbel looks tops:

I use 23mm Vittoria clinchers on my Boyd Altamont Lites and they measure out to about 25mm with the calipers. Run at about 80 PSI in the rear and 75 in the front they are as close to a tubular as I've ever experienced with clinchers.

I like 23s with wide rims.

Yeah the G+s are the best tires I have ever ridden (on a road bike).

Now, do I want the corsas for a bit more money or do I try the veloflexes which I have never used

I can't advise. Probably neither is especially good with puncture resistance.

When it comes to tubulars I have a distinct preference for Veloflex. When it comes to clinchers I have no opinion one way or the other.

But if you're looking for near-tubular performance with a Boyd Altamont rim I would recommend a 23mm tire. Heck, I've even had quite reasonable ride quality and exceptional durability from a 23mm Continental on wide Pacenti rims, and Continental is rarely a tire I would recommend for quality or ride.

Yeah I saw they were out. They really are excellent. I will def end up with another pair soon I am sure of it. I have about 800 miles on mine, track still looks brand new.

ended up going with the veloflexes. They are on their way now. We will see how they compare to the corsas.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions

veloflex tires still the gold standard for road riding IMO. the vittories are a little more durable, but the veloflexes ride nicer.
