I've been thinking about having my frame and fork repainted. It's a custom Pegoretti Marcelo but it's showing signs of wear; the rear dropouts are getting scratched as are both sides of the bottom bracket shell, chips in various places on the down tube, seat tube, and chain stays.

Anyways, anyone have any recommendations for a bicycle painter in the mid-Atlantic region? Spectrum, in PA, has a great reputation.

i think the outcome came out fantastically. for a pegoretti, i would definitely look into black magic...

i follow them on instagram now, and the work they are doing looks amazing!

Nice Moots! I like the paint scheme. I was looking for someone on the East coast but now I'll have to look Black Magic up. How are their prices compared to Joe Bell and Tom Kellogg?

JB's work is unsurpassed but the cost of shipping a frame back and forth would suggest that you find a good painter within driving distance if possible. We have had LOTS of threads on painters and you can find them in the archives. OTOH if you can't drive the frame both ways shipping charges to SoCal may not cost much more than it would to ship 200 miles from your home.

This did my ti Dean ElDiente in 2012. I was totally satisfied with the schedule and price, but was blown away by how good it turned out. You owe it to yourself to check him out.

Tom Kellogg can sure paint a bike. Black magic is a great option for a Peg.

Add Bilenky in Philly to the list of possibles, no direct experience myself but there's lots of pics on Google that look great.

Another plug for Tom, as I've got a bike there now, and got to spend a couple hours in the barn going over stuff. Location shouldn't be a factor, though, unless you're going to drive the frame over. Tom isn't slammed right now, but that will change as spring approaches.

I am pretty sure this is the same guy that Eric uses at Winter Bicycles. If Eric trusts him, I would too if it was within your budget.

I *think* I spoke with Tom at NAHBS in Richmond. His work is superb!

Bilenky make a semi-recumbent tandem that I would love to ride with my wife. Not too far from me, actually had the Pegoretti fit by Kyle at Cycles by Kyle.

Lots of options out there! Thanks for the suggestions!

I honestly can’t think of anyone better than Tony Wright.he was associated with Harbour Auto Restorarion and he was the guy that made sure that Million dollar builds looked like Million dollar builds. He is an amazing painter and he paints bikes now because he has an issue with his back.

He does not use decals, he reproduces everything in paint and has done amazing work on a couple of Serotta, Colnagos’s (including an Arte Decore) and a couple of IF’s. Best thing is he is not out of line with respect to cost. Happy to send pics of some of the work he has done for me is you PM me with an email address

I just had Tom build me a bike. He fit me, engineered/designed it, Seven welded it, he painted it, he built it.

Here is a picture of some of the detail I took with an iPhone...

His work is incredible ATMO.

Allan Wanta does nice work. Plenty of people here have had him refinish their bikes. Check out Robj's Colnago C50 in the production bikes thread. Awesome!!

You can email Dario for his opinion. Tom Kellog would do a great job and has done work for Dario in the past. If it were my Peg, I would likely ask Joe Bell and find the most cost effective way to ship it to him.

Another vote for tom Kellogg. Superb attention to detail . Decades of experience . Honest and kind.
The paint on my spectrum has held up really well into it's fifth year --only flaws are from chain slap and dropped metal tools . The clear coat with buried decala is amazing too.

I have had frames painted by several of the painters already mentioned. Two done by Joe Bell, both turned out just beautiful. JB has a long turn around/wait time and he isn’t cheap...but you won’t be disappointed.

Alan Wanta painted my Serotta. He got the job done quickly and he charged a very reasonable fee. I feel like the decal placement could have been better on the down tube, but I still get lots of compliments on the bike.

Most recently dealt with Black Magic to paint the fork on my Moots. They did a fantastic job. Painted on wheelie croc is awesome. I felt their pricing was good and the turn around was very quick. They were a pleasure to deal with, and they even put my finished bike up on their Instagram page.

Not on the east coast, but check out chestercycles.com. He's in Chicago. Duane has painted a Lemond Alpe d'Huez for me, and is currently painting a Lemond Zurich. Great work and reasonable pricing for the quality.

Turnaround is decent now, but he does get backed up from time to time.
