I got an email from Strava today telling me I've only ridden a little over 300 miles so far this year and alerting me I only have a couple more weeks to "make a push to max out my annual stats".

Clearly I've failed.

Considering I've commuted pretty much every day, ridden most weekends, and took a couple of longish bike camping trips, I've obviously done a lousy job of uploading every ride.

If I was serious about tracking my base / wattage / thresholds or whatever, I would have been more committed. Oh well, I guess I've spent more time focusing on being on the bike than I have improving my riding.

Not trying to sound sanctimonious, just casually amused by an app telling me I've been a lousy cyclist in need of shaming and encouragement.

Mine was pretty miserable too but in my case I was accurate with uploading rides. Health issues kept me off the bike most of the year. Awful. Hoping for so much better next year. Less than 2000 km so far.

326,647 feet elevation

mostly on dirt....

I am down from last year by 25%. Hopefully, next year I will be back past 5000 miles. To the OP, get a Wahoo Element and it does all the work for you. All you need to do is turn it on, press start and then press stop. I never used strava until about two years ago, being a stats nut its fun to track.

Apparently I've done 17,100km and 212,000 meters of climbing. That may be the most I've done in a year. That includes quite a bit of slow fatbiking at 10km/h in the winter, and does include trainer kms (but trainer km don't have any vertical).

Guess my new goal is to go over 300,000ft by the end of the year...seems very likely.

The numbers strava reported were off by almost 1000 miles for me and all of these miles were actually logged in strava.

strava, has built a nice community of users but it’s become more of a burden than its worth to me. I’m thinking of unplugging in the new year. Anyone else done this and regretted it?

Just another way for Strava to get more screen time. They don't care if you KOM'ed every segment in those 300 miles. Low miles = less time spent on app = emails saying you suck to get you to open the app.

... I’m thinking of unplugging in the new year. Anyone else done this and regretted it?

I might follow suit.

I have a couple of friends who did not post at all in November despite a couple of huge rides.

I like having the info available. I just don't live or die by it.

Strava has a lot of uses. If you don't like what it's giving you, then don't use it.

Even for my meager totals this year it's been a great tool.

I got my comp in march or april and since have done a bit over 3500. next year i would like to top 5k, with more 100m rides in the mix.

I've only used it about half this year until I saw it was connected to Paceline forum members who are listed on strava and have since used it most of the time with Garmin. It only has me listed at 1,526 miles but I have quite a bit of mileage on MapMyRide when I wasn't using my Garmin, I need to figure out how to upload it to Strava.

Is there a Paceline group on Strava???

If you use Chrome, there's a few plugins that make Strava less annoying and give some more insights, no premium required:

Stravini - kills all the latest "social" nonsense they added, lets you restore the feed to chronological, let's you block blog posts, virtual rides, promoted stuff, etc. Until this came out, I was close to bailing on Strava as the new version was super annoying and full of random junk.

StravistiX - expands a bunch of the statistics including % in a segment, YoY progressions, etc.

I just added Stravini. Thank you. I don't even follow that many people and my feed has been getting out of control the past few months.

I'm not a rider focused on hitting benchmarks or necessarily even trying to improve my performance. I'm not the audience for a lot of what Strava does, which is not a criticism of the program at all.

I like to use Strava when I'm riding some of my usual routes just to see how I do compared only to my own previous rides. It's interesting to me to try to figure out why I sometimes have faster times on days when I thought I was slow and lazy and vice versa. I also like to compare just how much my times change when I'm riding with a group rather than solo. I'll probably use it more next season out of curiosity as to how much my new slow heavy bike affects my times compared to my go fast bike.

I've never cared about tracking commuting miles, in town errands, or the like. I used to be pretty good about using my Garmin on every ride and uploading once I got home. Over the last couple of years I've become more likely to leave the computer at home and just hop on the bike.

If it weren't for my plans to do a lot more bikepacking on unfamiliar dirt roads, I'd probably ditch the Garmin altogether. But I need to be able to upload routes in advance and see where I am in places without cell coverage. Given all that, I'll probably use Strava a lot more next year.

Exactly. Pretty pointless if you can't put a name to a user ID.

My goal for the year was 5000 miles.

As soon as this flu passes I should be able to reach it.

Where do you live? Thats's some serious elevation gain over distance. Nice work!

6861 miles and 427 hours. Looks like I should hit 7k pretty easily.
I've had a few months at the end where my hours and miles dropped way off due to life but it was still a solid year.

Same here since I don't record errands or other low mile rides though I should since they sure add up.

I got the "hurry up, the year's almost over" message even though I'm already past last year's total. Last year I hit 8070 miles on new year's eve. This year will probably be around 8500. The only time I care about miles is May 1st to September 30th for the National Bike Challenge. I like to challenge co-workers on our team and usually I ride enough miles during those 5 months to pad my annual numbers.

I did have some mystery rides that didn't load into Strava from Garmin Connect so I did manual entries just to have them load 2-3 weeks later. Weird.

I'm at 3200 for the year, probably closer to 4000 since I don't upload my commutes. I wasn't riding for a while due to Gallbladder surgery and recovery from that.

For those of you who work steady I don't know how you get in all the miles you ride. I'm retired and ride as much as possible but I do have other things to do so my time is usually limited 2-4 a day weekdays. Seldom if ever ride on weekends, they are saved for family and friends. All said and done I'll top at a little over 4000 mi.

I'm with you. Busy though not retired. Not having a goal is my goal. Strava is great, but the yearly tally is a mixed blessing.

Sunrise group rides (I've grown to love this regular ritual), solo lunch rides, after-the-kids-are-in-bed trail rides, occasional commutes. Any saddle time is good. Been at it steadily since early March, and now I'm mostly sated. Keeping the cycling very low key right now.

Meh... Thats all I can say I just retired from the military and had gran illusions that i would have more time to ride right between looking for my next career and normal chores I was able to log 570 miles but ill take that better than not being able to ride hopefully ill get more next year....

Should be over 9,000 miles by year end, not including about 4,000 commute miles. Over 10,000 kms in official brevets this year.

Thanks! It's generally been a good year. I completed LEL and two other 1200K's (within a 45 day period) along with a 1000K and a number of other shorter brevets in addition to my usual riding at home.

I ended up DNS on one 1200K that I was signed up for due to a pulled/very sore hamstring - totally my fault but disappointing nonetheless.

My usual goal at the start of each year is 200 miles/week average so I've exceeded that by a good bit this year.
