View Full Version : Tell me I'm nuts!!!

Here's the scoop. There is a certain Colnago recently listed here I can't seem to get out of my head. (Not the C60). My all time favorite paint scheme. My size. But, I don't have the cash without probably unloading two frames and some parts. Here's what I have. This one will likely sell quickly: 2009 Moots Compact in excellent condition. A bike I love. Probably stated here I would never sell like 237 times. Size 55. Next up would be a 56 Serotta Meivici I got NOS a few years or so ago. 2006 model, clear carbon with blue and white panels. Custom paint, no decals except for the tubing decal. Beautiful bike. Not custom to me but fits nicely with a -17 stem. (Tall headtube). Also own an EPS that I got from Robj here that I love. Paint is nice, but doesn't tug at my heart like the new one listed here. Would keep the EPS as it is very low mileage wise with a newer group on it. So basically I would unload the Moots and Serotta to get the Colnago. Would leave me with two Colnagos. Have loved Moots for decades. Have a Rigormootis for the trails and would keep that. Am I nuts for possibly trying to sell two bikes I ride lots for a stinkin paint job?!!! Parts I would sell are great condition Dura Ace 7800. Thoughts? Thanks, Matthew

I'd keep what you have. You have two better bikes.

Yes, just get the Colnago repainted.

Possibly rnhood but my EPS is stellar. A bit harsher riding than the Moots of course but just feels so solid on the road.

not sure i'd swap a moots for a colnago, but that's just me :)

Forgot to mention my bikes can be seen in a thread I called My Stable if you want to look. Moots now has a Serotta F3 fork and new black decals. Colnago now has red bar tape and cages. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to give your thoughts. Guessing most of you will think I'm nuts and you are likely right. Cause as soon as I would ship that Moots off I would likely hate myself!!!

Compromise - keep the Moots and unload the Serotta. I would think a Meivici would be relatively easy to sell.

Unloading the Serotta would not likely fund the Colnago. And I would use the group off the Meivici for the new EPS. Seems most Serottas are practically given away here lately. Even Meivici's.

I had said the same thing about never selling my Moots. But I just wasn't riding it. I get that it's a "forever" frame. But in the end it's just a bike. Do what will make YOU happy.

Don't do it.
But if you do, I would take that F3 fork off your hands :)

Matthew

That F3 would be going with the Moots!!

I say you’re nuts! If I had a Moots that fit and I loved I would be a happy man and likely ride (maybe even own) nothing else.

The only reason to not sell a kidney to get more bikes is that drinking is the #2 hobby.

I figured the overwhelming response would be I was crazy. And my guess is you folks are right. Especially since I have a like new EPS already. Silly what your favorite paint scheme can get you to consider selling! I appreciate all of the input. Thanks

The way I look at it... Are the one(s) that you are giving up harder to obtain then the one you are picking up, later down the road? May make a hard decision a little easier for you.

Yup, I have seen this before. You have a bad case of affluenza. ;)

Matthew

Probably harder to get the ones I would give up. Moots are pretty pricey and the Serotta is no longer made obviously. But a new, never built EPS in the Zabel scheme is definitely a rare bird too. Might be equally hard! My decision would be easy if someone would just buy that Zabel EPS!!!!

I love Colnagos and have had several of them over the years. However, I can't think of a single one of them that I would choose over my Moots if I could only have one bike.

How much do you ride that Rigormootis? Sounds like you're mainly on the road, so maybe that's one you should consider letting go.

Solution: sell blood/plasma to accrue funds. J/K

is it that blue EPS? that is a nice color

I wouldn't sell the moots and the serotta for the Colnago but I would sell the serotta for the colnago (or the moots). 1 bike out, 1 bike in. 2 for 1 is not a good deal for you

I didn't get on the Rigor much this summer. Definitely a roadie at heart but not really considering selling the MTB because on occasion I like to hit the trails. And I would have to give it away since it's a 26er and those are obsolete now!!! As far as the Meivici goes, if I could get $2500 or so for the frameset I'd do it in a heartbeat. I doubt I could get that for it though, even though it has very few miles on it for a 2006. Serotta's seem to go for cheap here unfortunately. So I guess if someone is interested in it I would definitely entertain letting the Meivici go!! 2006 model, size 56. Cane Creek 110 headset, Parlee carbon front derailleur clamp. Could include the white Ritchey WCS -17 degree stem too as well as the white FSA seatpost. F3 fork is a 6.5 stiffness. Not sure the stiffness of the frame. Custom blue and white painted panels, silver logos. All painted logos. Matt

The Moots is definitely staying. Came to my senses in regards to that.
