I'm looking at the possibility of putting Di2 on my FS Ibis Mojo 3.

The LBS that sold me the rig and that specialized in MTBs is no more, and I can't get good answers from the local 17 year olds working at the other places that sell MTBs. I know my road shop mechanic could figure it out, but figured I'd ask here.

Where would one best locate the battery? I have a dropper post, and I am told the complicates things. I know there is a way to drop it down the head tube/steerer, but does that require ditching my nice new bars and stem for one of the Shimano Pro bar/stem combos. Not the end of the world, but do not want to do this if I did not have to.

OR

Can the battery be inserted thru the BB and placed in the seat tube or down tube near where the bottle boss is?

I know I can run the wires internally, as the other cables are already done that way.

My goal is the simplest, cleanest build possible that can preserve my cockpit.

Second, I plan to run a 2x, since I am not strong enough to feel confident I can handle big jumps while climbing. Any thoughts on one shifter/synchro shift vs. 2 levers? I'd prefer to free up the bar real estate.

Finally, if ordering the etubes and wires, how does one figure out lengths?

TIA!

Just note that if you are running XTR going 2x will not save you any jumps because Shimano only makes the XTR cassette in 11-40. But the jumps are way less noticeable on a mtb than anywhere else.

Anyway my vote is for synchro just because it’s cool and clutters the bars less with a dropper lever in play.

I'm not familiar with the Mojo frame, but on the whole mountain bikes can be quite difficult to retrofit Di2 in a super clean way. My Intense Tracer was terrible with very few clean options.

It's very unlikely that you'll be able to insert the battery via the BB

You can attach the battery to your dropper post cable and access it through the seat tube, so long as the cable hole for the dropper has enough room to accommodate the di2 wire as well.

I made a custom steerer tube battery holder and top cap, with no change to my bars and stem. If the PRO stem comes in the length you need and you find the bar comfortable this is a super easy and clean way of mounting the battery.

Sychro shift is amazing. If you don't want a 1x (and there are valid reasons for this) then I'd 100% suggest going synchro. If you don't like it then you can always buy a second shifter later.

Cable length can be worked out with a bit of string once you've figured out where all the hardpoints are going to go.

I'd try and find someone local who has plenty of experience with Di2 who can think through the install for you. One of the key requirements for me was not having any internal junction boxes where something could go wrong and be a PITA to fix.

Syncro shift is pretty slick and eliminates the left shift lever = space for your dropper remote.

For wire lengths, when you measure the run, Shimano measures end to end of the wire. The connectors are included in the length. Allow extra, it's easy enough to let it stay stuffed inside. The one from the the display to the shift lever will come out the back of the the display, bend over to get to the shift lever. There's a "keeper" that doubles the wire back on itself that'll use up a couple of inches.

Worst case, you could do an external battery holder along the bottle cage.

Mojo 3 has sealed bb and not much room in seat tube for a battery.

You'd probably have to pull the fork, drop in the battery in the frame and then use the cable ports to run the etube wires.

Head tubes on ibis are super short, so battery in steerer may or may not work.

I have a mojo 3 with di2...battery goes in steerer but you need the pro di2 stem and bars for the cleanest set up

Can you get away with just the stem if you don’t mind a little black electrical tape?

In the process of figuring out the same thing with a mountain tandem. Di2 triple setup.
