Does anyone happen to know if a single-pivot Campy skeleton caliper would have more clearance than a dual-pivot version? I'm asking for the obvious reason, yes: I want more clearance.

It seems like they have more clearance. I can only fit a 26c tire in the rear of my Merckx MX Leader with Shimano 11s dual pivots. More clearance with the Campy dual pivots, and more again with the Campy single pivots. I never tried, but might have been able to fit a 28c.

My understanding is that the non-skeleton brakes have about 3mm more tire clearance than the skeleton version. Brake bridge placement of course is an issue in the rear. How big of a tire and on which rim/wheel are you trying to fit?

The single pivot brakes have more "head room" than the doubles do. I'd say about 3-4 mm more.

The whole thing is exaggerated by using wider rims with the double pivot brakes. As the pads move away from each other the arms above the tire move down closer to the tire.

So for taller tires and/or wide rims the single pivots are often the way to go.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, all.
