This story is about Grigory Rodchenkov, who was the subject of the documentary Icarus on Netflix.

The chemist has kept a diary most of his life. His daily habit is to record where he went, whom he talked to and what he ate. At the top of each entry, he scrawls his blood pressure.

Two of his hardback journals, each embossed with the calendar year and filled with handwritten notes from a Waterman pen, are now among the critical pieces of evidence that could result in Russia being absent from the next Olympic Games.

The chemist is Grigory Rodchenkov, who spent years helping Russia’s athletes gain an edge by using banned substances. His diaries cataloging 2014 and 2015 — his final years as Russia’s antidoping lab chief before he fled to the United States — provide a new level of detail about Russia’s elaborate cheating at the last Winter Games and the extent to which, he says, the nation’s government and Olympic officials were involved.

Just got done watching Icarus, best movie on doping I've ever seen. I strongly recommend it.

Previously discussed on Paceline here (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=199920) and here (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=211934).

In any case, I found the Icarus "documentary" pretty flawed, convoluted, long, and not really conclusive, and it appears that not much has changed with this NYT article.

I really hope the IOC does the right thing on 12/5 but I'll be shocked if they do...

The IOC has long since ceased being an organization to promote bringing the world together for peace and understanding through organizing friendly sports competition between nations, and has become a licensing and marketing organization to promote the personal wealth and power of its committee members (through means both licit and illicit).

Given its current purpose, the decision they will make on 12/5 should be obvious.

As Putin seethes over Olympic ban, doping whistleblower fears for his life

The whistleblower who exposed Russia’s systematic doping of Olympic athletes has been warned by U.S. officials that Russian agents may be inside the United States looking for him, and that new security measures needed to be taken to ensure his safety, the lawyer for the whistleblower tells Yahoo News.

I think that being convoluted, long, and inconclusive (on some topics) is what makes that documentary thought provoking.

the guys is the former head of the systematic doping platform, invented the cocktail that allowed countless (thousands) of tests to come back negative, extorted money from athletes, then becomes head of the anti-doping effort, and now is fearing for his life and is in the protection of the u.s. marshal service?

can't make that up.

Definitely.

I thought about it, and then thought that not only is it pretty flawed, convoluted, long, and not really conclusive, but that it is also badly edited, boring, and starring the worst wanna-be cloak-and-dagger Graham Greene/John Le Carrè semi-misterioso character the Netflix screen has ever seen.

But, go right ahead and please do chip in (https://www.gofundme.com/how-is-grigory)....
Perhaps somebody might be able to even surpass Fogel's massive top contribution of two hundred whole dollars!
