How well does it work getting the stink out of synthetic materials?

I'm thinking of using it for some hand-wash stuff (some polyester, some Lycra)

I just finished a bottle of it. I never had any problems with smells not coming out, but it did seem to leave a slight scent...not a bad one but something I noticed.

I planned to get more if it but decided to try the scent-free Win detergent instead. So far so good with that.

Thanks Brock. I don't mind if the soap itself has a slight odor - the ability to take out my odor is IMO the key thing.

Looks like the local REI carries it, so I'll probably swing by there and buy some.

I read on line that using a solution of cider vinegar and water would get the "funk" out of modern wicking athletic apparel. The problem with most athletic ware is the detergent does not completely rinse out so it basically becomes an area for the bacteria to attach and grow.

I just put about a cup to cup and a half in a five gallon bucket, add a couple of gallons of water and then trow my gear in, let it sit for an hour then throw it in the wash. I also add an extra rinse cycle. No funk and way cheaper.

Cider vinegar is very good for this. There are also laundry additives that do a good job. And a bath in Nikwax Techwash does a superb job of removing residual detergent and surfactants and taking out any stink. It's what Gore recommends for the problem in all their Goretex products.

Trick is to let the garments soak a bit before running the cycle. Have patience with really funky cases. May take two or three washes to de stink.

I use that as well, though, under the name Atsko - same packaging. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make the Nathan sportwash as well. It’s ‘non-biological’ (stateside we say ‘non-enzyme’) so it’s recommended for wool (Rapha gear) and technical fabrics as well. Great stuff and economical in the large 64 oz size.

I agree with Mr. Pink that soaking is the key. These soaps are so gentle that there’s no downside to letting them sit for a couple hours - they actually work better, if you do.

I hand wash my gear these days, but I’m kind of set up for it with an extra sink and a drying rack in the tub of a spare bathroom. As soon as I get home I throw my kit in the sink and hit the shower.

Resurrecting this old thread, since I am recovering from cleaning stuff sticker shock. Anyone have experience with good old Woolite? Maybe Woolite with a half cuppa vinegar...yum.

Honestly the problem is likely that the soap is not washing out completely.
Quick cure is to soak your kit in a vinegar water mixture, I say about 1 cup to 5 gals of water. Let it soak for several hours. Then use soap, Tide or something similar with no fabric softener and an extra rinse cycle. Hang outside to dry. That should fix the problem

Here is the stuff I have used for a few years.
Very cheap because you use such a small amount.
However it will not fix old locked in stink.
With a front load washer I do a clean cycle every month with a lot of Vinger
