Road Tubeless (Rim Brake) Wheelset Suggestions

I am thinking of making the jump to road tubeless after a series of slashes in San Francisco on my regular clinchers.

After I had an audible flat that self sealed with Orange seal on my all road bike (WTB exposure 34 tires), I sort of have the bug to make the switch.

I'm looking for a few recommendations for decent tubeless wheelset (rim brakes) that is reasonably light. Likely aluminum, not super high cost. Aero not needed. Will be a climbing wheel and commuter.

My instinct is just a pre-built, not custom. I don't feeling like adding a third Chris King hubset to fuss with preload, etc. to the mix.

Depends a bit on the frame you’ll be matching them to, but if I were doing this, I’d choose between:

- Hed Ardennes plus black
- One of the new Mavic UST models

The Heds are just really nice, wide rims and are available in stronger “stallion” builds.

Mavic has created some really nice wheels with the new UST models. Very easy to mount/seat their tires.

If you're a fan of lightweight wheels then i would recommend American classic. Plus they're having a 30% off coupon currently. I like the argent tubeless. Do not have one currently but had one in the past. held up pretty good for three years. then i had to replace the front hub bearings. but that was ok since i wanted lightweight. they hubs rolled very well and the wheels seemed to spin up pretty quick. In all, I would one again especially since they have now increased the id of the rim to 19.4 mm.

I recently received a pair of Hunt 4Season Aero tubeless wheels and am very happy with them. Shipped very fast, arrived perfectly true, ride super smooth. Have only heard positive reviews from others I know that also own Hunts.

I worked for a Trek dealer for a coupla years and aquired a few sets. Good stuff for not much $$

Hard to beat Ultegra 6800 or Zonda C17s for pre-built wheels, IMO. The Zondas have a more modern 17mm inner width rim in comparison to the Ultegra wheels, for what it is worth. Technically speaking, the ERTRO manual suggests using at least a 17mm inner width rim for a 34mm tire, but I don't think you would have an issue with the Ultegras either.
